This company has had several severe security flaws in its phones.
Given that, is scary to think they are big in the "Internet of Things". The Internet of Things has looked at security as "Why would anybody want to hack a computer?"
 
Yes, I did see the security issue in the comments. I would also be worried about dropping the whole configuration given the CoG (center-of-gravity) will be way off. Maybe with a smallish 35, not so much? Or, some sort of ring/strap attachment on the mounting collar for a little dropsy insurance. I would still be nervous though. But interesting nonetheless...
 
An intriguing concept, but I am baffled figuring out the market for such a product. If it ever went to production it is gonna be expensive, so narrows that market right outta the gate. Also, hanging even a small m-mount lens off a phone would lead to awful ergonomics.
 
So this is for those situations where you don’t want to carry your Leica, but you carry the lens. Nice.

So often I have my 90/2.8 Elmarit-M with me and I just wish I’d brought the camera along as well.
 
Trying to use phone as capable camera is kind of stupid. Digital cameras could serve for decades. Phones becomes obsolete sooner.
 
Looks like it was announced last summer. A joint effort. I missed it.

The Xiaomi 12S Series "co-engineered with Leica" was officially launched in China today. In particular, the camera of the flagship model, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, sets a new standard in the area of smartphone photography.

Wetzlar, 4 July 2022. In May of this year, Xiaomi, one of the world’s leading smartphone companies, and Leica Camera AG publicly announced their strategic partnership in the mobile imaging segment. Now, the first products jointly developed by the two companies, the Xiaomi 12S series ‘co-engineered with Leica’, have been presented to the Chinese market.

I have long been suspicious of products make in China. They have different priorities than most other nations, and are big enough to keep doing just about whatever they want to do. The widipedia on that company makes an interesting if long read.

I do agree about IoT, as well as a lot of other technologies, which even if not controlled by any government, only look at profit, and leave it to consumers to find and fix problems. One of the reasons I don't have a lot of home security devices is because I don't want to risk inviting people into my home with all the different insecure blue tooth devices. Trying to secure that is more trouble for me than a system that is local to me and the dog. :p
 
An interesting approach. Let's see where the Xiaomi/Leica partnership goes. This said my main concern with Chinese phones is that, unlike Samsung, the various Chinese producers do not guarantee multi-year software upgrades.
 
Internet connectivity and sharing or uploading the photos is the appeal of this device, correct?

A digital Leica (or Fuji, or Sony, …) with wireless internet connectivity seems to make more sense.
 
I have had 6 cameras over the past 10 years where Internet connectivity for sharing and uploading pics was offered as a feature. Always a big turn-off for me, have never once activated this feature on various Canons, Sonys or Nikons. Always struck me as creepy, but I am an old Fudd. I do not like the Internet of Things, do not trust it and will not use it. I even disabled the internet connection on the thermostat on my house furnace, easy enough to accomplish with a soldering iron and a schematic of the thermostat circuit board.
 
Another Huawei wannabe but with an M mount that Big Brother Xi can surveil you on. Something else not on my Christmas list.
