Xpan for street photography?

being a street photography lover, and after a new challenge for a holiday last year, I picked up an xpan to see how it would fare out on the streets. Usually I shoot an M6, so i have to admit I did find panoramics on the street quite challenging to get my head around at the start.

I like the outdoor table scene, you really take advantage of the wide view in that one.
I imagine that the drawback, if there is one, would be to fill the frame with information relevant to the view.

Nice work, Mark. I tried this, but never seemed to find enough situations that lent themselves to the format to bother with it, and finally sold the XPAN. Looks like it's working for you, though!

I have to say, for my day to day street photography the M6 is the weapon of choice. It was really something different to sue the xpan on similar scenes and try and figure out what would work. A lot slower way of composing to what I’m used to.

yeah, although some of the shots leant themselves to pano, that especially so - and wouldn’t have been as impressive in regular 35mm. Nice how it did turn out as little negative frames 🙂

you nailed it. I was ultra conscious of trying to make the full frame relevant. Which becomes quite tricky when shooting in NYC on the street. There were quite a few shots that I would have taken if the M6 had been in my hand, but I didn’t take the shot with the xpan as the width just had too much in the shot.

Thanks Rob. The kicker here is that I actually sold the xpan after a couple of months. While I loved to shoot it, and it was refreshing on a holiday. I couldn’t see it getting that much use back at home - as i found it too restrictive for the stuff that I shoot regularly. Having said that after I let it go there was a good dose of sellers remorse 😉
