XPAN How do you scan the negs?

I have recently bought a second hand Nikon Coolscan 8000 and am amazed by the results. At 4000dpi/48bit I am getting a 220Mb file - the detail is superb.

If anyone has a small number of Xpan negatives/positives they would like me to scan for them, I'd be happy to so long as return postage is paid. Naturally all the usual disclaimers would apply about not being liable for alien abduction of said photographic materials. :D Let me know.

I've got a 3170, and it is fine for the MF stuff (6x6 and 6x9), but it struggles a bit with the 35mm stuff. At least it is not too expensive, so will tide me over till something better (and still affordable) comes along.
 
Is there somewhere in PS CS a stitching function?
I just looked in the users guide in the table of contents and didn't find anything about stitching.
I'd like to know more about this.

file - automate - photomerge...it's there but i find doing it by hand is better.

At long last, I think I have found a scanner that seems to work for me for X-Pan scans......at least for panoramic photos on 8.5 x 11 paper.....the Canoscan 9950F seems to be working out tolerably well......I am using the sharpening option on the scanner and in PS as well. I have posted a couple of panoramic pics onlint......a street photo that probably needs more sharpening and a "cityscape" that was pretty sharp when I printed it out.

Another vote for the Nikon Coolscan 8000, works perfect for 24x65 and 6x9. In my office I also have a Canon 9900 flatbed scanner which is ok for small prints or internet scans.
 
The F3200 has had very mediocre reviews from England...not better than the 4870...
NOT the same as the US 3200, which has been discontinued for two years...I don't think the F3200 will be introduced in the US...the 4990 appears to be arriving here, though it too may not be better than the 4870...

One secret to sharper film from a flatbed is an anti-newton glass carrier....which is made by, um, I forget, for the Epson flatbeds. It's intended for roll film but also makes flatter 35.
 
I purchased a used Nikon 8000ED with a medium format glass negative holder and it works great. 12" by 36" prints coming off my Epson 2200 are beautiful.

I make darkroom prints of my medium format photos and then scan them on a flatbed scanner. They look good, imho, and I get a print to boot.
