Hasselblad Serial Numbers Decoding/Dating Sequence: 1234567890 = VHPICTURES. (for Victor Hasselblad Pictures)
Therefore the two letters in the Serial Number = the year.
E.G. EE in mine = 99 = 1999

It looks like yours was made in either 1951 or 2151. ;-)
Mine was made in 1974 or 3674, even better.

Wouldn't SP make it 2003? Mine is SI so it should be 2004, right? And how can your's be made in 1974 when they were not made until the 90's?

thanks for the reply, my letters are S H, so that makes it an 02 model.

You ignore the first two digits or letters. I had assumed (it seems wrongly) that the first two were always numbers (usually 1x).

For those who do not already know about it, particularly if buying an XPan secondhand, a better idea of actual usage is the amount of shutter actuations the camera has done. This can be found by holding down the AEB button on the back while switching the camera on. You then multiply this figure by 10 to get the number of times the shutter has been fired. Divide this by 21 for the number of normal full length films if shot in panoramic mode.
When I brought my 1999 XPan, secondhand about 4 years ago it had only shot about 300 frames, less than 15 films even though about 4 years old then. I have since added about another 5,000 exposures.
I'm not sure what will happen if I ever get to 9,999 on the back count = 99,999 exposures though!
