Yahoo woes on Flickr (meandering rant)

I have no problems with Flickr except one issue I see - it seems that the design of the website site is bloated with inefficient fluff. It looks nice, but the site feels bloated, browsers seem to struggle to load all the fancy coding or HTML 5 or whatever they've built around it that slower connections will suffer or not even display the page properly. It seems to me that there is too much fancy makeup on the site that impacts on the usability and browsing experience. Why not just go back to basics perhaps? It's like Formula 1 these days - too complicated with gimmicky stuff that destroys the good old days of true speed. I hope I haven't opened another can of worms in regards to speed...

The login issues are real and obnoxious.

Flickr will absolutely be sold, as yahoo will have to unwind itself in order to become a holding company for alibaba stock, as it has dreamed of doing for years.

This year I didn't extend pro subscription. Since stats are on steroids they are not useful for me anymore and in fact I've lost interest in them even longer before...

statistics only make sense if the premises it is founded on are clear and that they, in this case, over time stay the same. Yes it was annoying when the count had been changed and jumped, but as we did not know what was counted before and we don't know what is counted now I can't differentiate which one I should like better. Changing the counting method is what makes it less useable, they sure changed to make them flattering. At least it has stayed the same since then. I readily admit that I check out my viewcount often, find it interesting to see which image gets more attention, which less. The big total, even if one doesn't know how it comes about, feels good anyways 😉
