are you implying that the POD is bad? (i can hear a click sound right before cocking the camera as it should be with a proper POD)

There are more things that can go wrong with the Electro rod mechanism than a bad bumper. Indeed, the CCN is supposed to have a bumper that does not decay, so control rod issues there might be due to something else, for example dirt or loss of lubrication (I removed a lump of dust from mine when I originally got it).

are you absolutely sure that your camera doesnt use the battery when its cocked? (can you double check with a lens cap ON)

I am absolutely sure. The measurements further up in the thread haven't changed except on the last digit for all these years. And my camera has gone through only one battery since then, the current one has been inside for two years and is still going strong (at only three or four films - but it obviously has not lost current while being unused). There is no difference with or without lens cap, cocked or fired - the camera only draws current while the release is pressed.

where was the dirt located, and how could dirt be the reason for a drain?
also the same two questions regarding lubrication?
I assume you checked the measurement again yesterday?

I thought I had a POD, but it was merely a lump of dust blocking the pad. But that must not be the same for you, after all these years dust may have settled anywhere - just like lubricant. Past service may have left an excess of sticky lubricant on the conductor tracks, or too volatile lubricants that collected at the corners and left the tracks dry. And the dust will eventually stick to the grease.

Yes - at the core unchanged, that is, no current draw without half-pressed release. In use it now seems to need about 10% less current for the lights - but that probably is due to the worn battery, the first test was with a fresh one.

okay. I believe that my camera has some issue.
would you mind opening the TOP, and take a picture of the spring under the shutter button in two locations. once at cocked mode and once at relaxed mode? also take it shoot it against a ruler to see how long it is, and finally measure the diameter?

my hunch, is that the top is pushing on the spring, which causes some pressure on the shutter mechanism, like a 1\4 push which causes battery drain. possibly the beginning of a half press which uses the battery for metering.

Well, no. Holding a meter to the battery is one thing. Taking apart a functional camera goes a bit too far...
