Yashica D - pictures and a question

I've just bought one of these from fellow RFFer Scotforthlad and thus become the third forum member to own it. It's a joy to use and the Yashinon lens is great, here's a few from the first roll.
I think it needs a hood though. Am I right in thinking it takes Rollei Bay 1 accesories? There seem to be a lot of Bay 1 hoods around at very reasonable prices.

Take a look through the lens also -- I'm wondering if it could stand a cleaning. Well worth it, though, since as you can see it's an outstanding lens.

Nice interesting shots, looks like good cycling country. Did you use any sort of filter, I like the contrast of clouds and sky.

Noel, you have mail.

Steve - no filter, just a lot of exposure as I rode off without a meter and only remembered after I'd gone a mile or so. This oasis is in inner-city east London and runs up into Hertfordshire, all rideable on the towpaths practically into the City of London.

hood == necessity for most TLR's. Definitely a good idea.

though I will say that your scans could use a bit more contrast as is...

One reason for the low contrast could be the absence of a hood.

But you'd get some flare if the lack of the hood was causing the low contrast. There doesn't seem to be any flare except in the first one.

This is a shot taken with my 124G...Tri-x @400 Developed with D-76, 11 min @ 68*

I like the camera but do not use it's meter...I'll either know from past experience the correct exposure (indoor shooting) or will use the meter reading from my F2 or F4 whichever one I have...
Focus point was the end of his guitar...Yes he is OOF...
Not sure if the "D" has a meter...but interested in how you got the settings you did use...

Allan, there's flare in other frames on the roll. I think a hood is a good move. I also think you're right that my scans have been processed for low contrast, they look better on my big display than on my notebook. Some profiling needed I think. Low contrast in the pictures is not a problem, folks, the negs look fine.

Sam, the D has no meter but then nor do my M2s. I use the old "sunny 16" formula for exposure most of the time, tending to overexposure if unsure. Nothing I shot on that roll was "tricky". Indoors I'm usually about right too.

I definitely meant just in the scans - I wasn't commenting on your negatives at all. Just to be clear.

I unfortunately cannot count the number of frames that I wished I had that were "lost" to flare. There are too many...sad...

Allan, I was speaking of what is usually called veiling flare, a generalised sort of thing over the entire image. Maybe that is what Mark too means. [edit] Oops. Mark II unintentional.

Congratulations ! I am sure you are happy, therefore I am happy too.

I don't know the size of this TLR, but perhaps may be of some encouragement if I tell you that the "compact" Iskra, is not so comapact and quite cumbersome.
