I recently got a yashica electro 35 G from ebay and I had a question about a problem I'm having, I know it has been discussed before but I really didn't get a clear answer. My problem is that I checked the battery light, it goes on but when I try to check the meter it never goes on, I've tried to make it dark or light and nothing. I've also noticed that the shutter is stuck on the default setting of 1/500th, even in bulb. I was wondering is there a way to check out the meter light and make sure the connection is good and where do I look for the meter light.

The meter/shutter circuit is separate from the battery test circuit. If power is not getting to the meter/shutter circuit, the over/slow lights will not come on and the shutter will stay on its mechanical speed of 1/500.

There are two red wires attached to the chrome steel ring just inside the battery cover. The short one powers the battery test circuit, and the long one powers the exposure circuit. Take off the bottom of the camera and check to make sure the long wire is soldered firmly to the ring.

Even if the solder joint is good, the wire may be bad. I've seen battery corrosion affect battery wires through their entire length.
