Just wondered what people think of the bokeh on this camera. It seems a bit harsh in comparison to that of the jupiter 8 lens.

But i have only used both the zorki (now broken) and the yashica with cheap 200 iso kodak film. I'll be recieving some Tri-x and Delta 400 tomorrow which i am sure will bring out the real qualities of the lens.

What are your thoughts?

Don't really notice it, to tell the truth. But considering the aperture of the GSN is five-bladed versus the J-8's essentially circular, I'm not surprised the Yashica might produce harsher results.

Strange, it seems quite apparent to me. Perhaps its because i didn't get chance to use the jupiter 8 wide open, and the narrow dof makes the the grain of the cheap film more vissble in the plain background making it look less smooth.

I have shot a lot of pictures with the gsn and found the lens to be creamy smooth in the out of focus rendering. Later I will post some pictures or you can find them in one of the links in my signature. It has been my experience that yashica lenses from that era and on have had excelent tonality and a very smooth feeling to the images they make. Frankly the gsn's lens is my all time favorite and hope one day to get my hands on one that has been modified for Leica mount.

Here's a thread on Photo.net that talks about a Hayata Camera in Japan where a Miyazaki-san is renouned for converting Yashica lenses to Leica M mount. I think - however, that he only does it for the 35mm f1.8 of the Electro CC. (Have that camera right next to me. Great lens...)

Thanks for the info, just what i was after. I'm going to put my dissapointment down to poor film.

Now i'm wishing i ordered slower film, i forgot this thing only goes to 1/500.

Nick i read you post about why this camera is the best rangefinder, some good points and somewhat entertaining. I'm sure theres a few that have the AP, but its that fact that the shutters aren't stepless? I cant quite remeber.

Once i've shot a couple of rolls and developed them i'll share my results.
