Hi there

I am new to the forum and have just picked up a Yashica electro 35 GX. But it has a problem, only the underexposed warning arrow lights up and the shutter tends to stay open when fired! (shutter fires correctly when the battery is removed) could it be a dirty contact somewhere? it did start working correctly but then promptly stopped working. Any ideas? I understand it may be the "pad" but I am not sure where it is located on this model

Anyway any ideas much appreciated, also where best to have it repaired in the uk?

Thanks

Chris

Be sure to remove the lens cap when testing like this. And if the aperture is stopped down or the light is dim then it is normal for the shutter to remain open. Otherwise, just try exercising the aperture and iso controls to clean them.

Another thing to check is the meter cell. For some reason, the meter cell in the GX can develop a white crust which obscures the cell, and causes the shutter to stick open. Sometimes this crust gets several milimeters thick.

Also, the light baffle between the lens nameplate and meter cell might be loose or damaged. You need to remove the retaining ring around the nameplate and get a look at the baffle and cell.

Thanks for the information guys. I have already had the lens apart and I don't remember any build up on the cell.... I think I replaced the light baffle correctly but I will definitely check again..... anything else if it is not that?

Thanks again guys...Frontman you came highly recommended by another forum member.

Cheers

Chris
