Hello, I've recently acquired yashica electro cc camera. The battery check works, but the electronics doesn't - there is no arrows and only one shutter speed. Do you think it would be possible to fix it unaided? The camera doesn't look like being dropped or physically damaged. Please help

Try cleaning the battery terminals. I use pencil eraser, works all the time especially when you havent used the camera for a long time.

sounds like you are in the "default" mode of that camera. It goes there when the battery is dead or there is some issue like ray has noted. Check your battery first also make sure you have the appropriate battery for that camera. check Karen Nakamura's page at http://www.photoethnography.com/equipment.html then go to the link for the Yashica GSN on the left side of the page. There you will find info on the batteries for these cameras... great resource

Hello, I sent the camera to the repairman - he judged that wires inside are completely rotten as a result of battery leak. The camera is almost mint on the outside, but caveat emptor...
Still I have a yashica gsn with healthy and strong *thunk*

you can open it and check for yourself, sometimes its only the wires to the battery compartment that are damaged by a leak and are easy to fix google yashica guy
he has a site with repair tips

If the battery check works, then power is getting to the check button - this means the wire has not rotted off the top of the battery spring (the normal point of failure) - it is much more likely that the problem is the infamous Pad of Death - do a google check on that - you can repair it yourself if you are handy.
Also see if you can contact Greyhoundman here for advice on how to do it.

I thought that the POD issue concerns only yashica gsn (?) Should be a *thunk* sound when rewinding a yashica cc?
