Yashica Electro Gs - Frozen Element

Can anyone help please?

I was changing out a set of front elements on my GS but the second element is frozen solid. Usually the front elements come out as one section but this time they unscrewed.


It refuses to budge. I could cut slots on the edge of the element retainer to use a heavier lens spanner but the metal filings might settle on, and in, the blade mech. There are two small holes, presumably for a set of points on a lens spanner, but when I tried to use my lens spanner on these - no go - rock solid.

Any ideas please?

I just finished one with the same issue. I just took some loctite and applied is in the uppier pottion of the threads of the outer retainer. I did not put a lot of it on, just spaced some "dots" with a toothpick around the circumfrence. I did make sure that the glass was thoroughly clean before doing this, just in case it could not come apart easily.. I then re-installed and waited until the loctite had time to set up. The assembly then came out in one piece, with no problem. If you try this, just make sure you don't get too much of the "stuff" in there. I could make a real mess if not careful. Good luck.

Frank - it worked very well.
Old elements are out - new elements in.

Just finished road testing the camera. Nice and sharp.

Another old $18 banger saved from the spares drawer.
