Was just reading about this camera on THE Yashica Guy's site. I havent heard it mentioned around here. Seems it has a high iso setting of 16oo and a 40mm 1.7 lens.
Anyone ever tried this out. Nothing listed on the bay. Seems mysterious.

Yes, i bought one froma local op shop for 20 bucks. However, after getting it home i realised that the rangefinder wasn't linked to the focus. I've yet to get the top off to hopefully remedy this and clean the viewfinder which is unbelievably gunky. Everything else works fine, meter and shutter seems ok.

Anyway what can i say about the GL... dare i say it, it is the ultimate Yashica Electro. It seems alot better made than all the g, gs, gsns i have come accross. The meter has been moves to just above lens, making it easy to meter with filters attached. The function (auto-bulb-flash) dial has been removed. So there is no bulb mode, but i won't miss that. The iso setting has moved to the lens barrel like a canonet. These changes have made the electro alot less cluttered and better to use.

The film advance, shutter lock, viewfinder plate, exposure indicators have all had a facelift. Aeshetically, this is one of the most handsome cameras i've ever seen. Its a tiny bit smaller than the gsn i find the handling even a bit nicer. When using a flash you change apeture dial such that the iso adjuster lines up with a little lightning bolt, i think thats pretty nifty.

Anyway i can't wait till i have the funds/time to get this working. Apparently these were sold as a premium electro and were built in japan unlike the later gsns. Don't get me wrong, i love the gsn, but the gl feels like a complete camera. I much prefer to hold it than any other camera.

Cheers.

Thanks, verybiased! Makes me want to try it out even more. I've been searching the world wide web to no avail so far, but I'll turn over every stone.
