I picked up a really nice GS on line for a good price and yesterday I replaced the POD. However, when I received the camera I noticed that the aperture blades didn't close down when you turned the aperture ring. I thought I might find the problem when I replaced the POD but no soap. The "T-spindle" turns freely and it went back into the body just fine, but though the aperture ring turns freely the blades don't close. Anybody out there know where I go from here? :bang:

Did you take the lens barrel apart? It's hard to tell from your description. It sounds to me as though the actuating pin isn't in the fork that moves the aperture blades...

No Russ, I didn't take the lens bbl apart. Is the actuating pin the same as the "T-pin" extending from the back of the lens bbl.? That turns freely and I lined it up to fit into the T-pin housing in the camera body. By manually turning the T-pin should the aperture blades move?

OK, now I get it. The pin you are talking about is the shutter cocking pin. Totally different. If you disassemble the lens barrel far enough, there is a pin attached to the aperture ring. This must fit into a small fork inside the barrel that actually moves the aperture blades. it is possible that the previous owner had the lens barrel apart and reassembled it wrong, with the pin not engaged in the fork. If this happened, everything would feel normal when you rotated the aperture ring, but the blades wouldn't move. :bang:

Only way to know for sure would be to strip it down and take a look.

Well, I managed to get into the front part of the lens but couldn't go any further because I didn't have the proper tools to go deeper to get to the aperature mechanism. I've more or less decided to utilize the camera as a parts camera unless I decide to try and get to the apeature mechanism at some later date. Thanks for your help.

Is there anyone out there that can recommend someone who could disassemble the lens bbl and get the camera's aperture ring working properly?
