Yashica GSN for $321 on Ebay!

This is sad to see on ebay. I was following an auction for a 'fake' IWC watch. I wanted to pay maybe $50, but it ended up going for over $1500. I emailed the seller to let him know that its fake and he should inform the buyer... who knows if he did.

from the seller:

Not a problem. I'm under no great illusions that this bidder will pan out--the GSN's are great cameras, don't get me wrong, but $1600.00?? I will definitely get to the bottom of this, though, if indeed s/he doesn't pan out. I normally get top dollar for my Electros because I clean and adjust them myself--to the best of my ability--and they come out almost new. And then I guarantee them to work perfectly. So I've earned a reputation as a reliable camera seller. But this bidding war was over the top. There was another eBayer a few weeks ago who was so impressed with my sales that she decided to lift my ad word for word and sell her own GSN on eBay. Not only was her item promptly removed, but when she did finally sell it with her own words and lack of a guarantee and overpriced shipping charges, she got something like $45 for it. Go figure.

The saga continues...

i'll keep anyone interested informed...

Ha! Your posts have given me a good laugh. What you're not aware of, of course, is that the film holder on my GSN's come filled with tiny little diamonds. So the bidder is actually getting a great deal.

But I'll tell ya what, if it doesn't work out with him (and of course we all know it will), for my new friends here at RFF, I'll take out the diamonds and offer this beauty for half price.

Aha! The old diamonds in the film reminder trick! Very clever.

There was a film several years ago with where Hugh Grant played an art dealer who got entangled with this future inlaws, a Mafia family. The plot involved a scheme to launder money by passing it through highly inflated art auctions.

A remake could use Fed-2's and Ansco Pioneer's on e-Bay.

@JoeFriday: What movie am I missing?

@eclat: hopefully you get reimbursed for eBays fees!

@all: it's fun!

I'm going to be sending that "dentist" to my high bidder. Who was that anyway?? Olivier? Wasn't he called "The White Angel"? Yeah, well, eeeeks-bay strikes again. But seriously, if anyone here's looking for some fine GSN machinery in MINT condition, drop ye olde' mate a line and I'll fix ya up (rocks not included). I'm even parting with a GX soon--as soon, that is, as I get the time to replace some light seals and clean the bad boy up. All interested parties feel free to reply.

Eclat, I have a pig in a poke bid running out in 2hours, twenty minutes or so. If it does not pan out I will be PMing you, if someone does not beat me to it.

If nothing else, this auction has brought you to RFF, a great place with plenty of suckers...er...collectors willing to buy rf gear (I include myself). Welcome, and stick around!

Money laundering?

Money laundering?

I've often wondered whether these outrageous auction prices were truly the work of shill or truly ignorant bidders, or are people laundering funds. If a single seller or a single buyer had a high number of transactions with ending bids that were far from the norm, it may be easier to draw the conclusion that someone may be laundering money, but where it is not part of a pattern, that conclusion is not necessarily correct. I just have a hard time believing that a bidder would be so uninformed and would get so caught up in the bidding that they would bid well above what any sane person would. I also have a hard time believing that there are people so intent on interfering with others' bids that they'll go through the trouble of creating new eBay accounts for that purpose. Either scenario just doesn't make sense to me.

Well, I won the GSN for 26.35 including shipping. Don't have a clue what I have purchased. There was snipeing the last 30 seconds, and I was wanting them to beat me out. 🙂 Right up till then it was $ 9.95 all the way. I guess this will be my intro to camera repair.

that's still a pretty good price, jwcat.. I paid about $30 w. shipping for one about 3 months ago.. it was in near mint condition with a nearly new neverready case.. only needed light seals and a new battery to get it running.. hopefully you'll have the same luck

The winning "bidder" had a brand new account with zero-feedback. That will be the likelihood of the deal completing. Unless of course the Hunt Brothers are starting to collect silver again and can't tell the difference from chrome finished RF cameras.

Going once, Going twice...

Going once, Going twice...

SOLD!!! FOR $1600.00. (And I'm not kiddiing...)
