Hi All;
I just acquired a Yashica GTN at a thrift store for 5 bucks. It appears to be in pristine condition, the nicest Electro I have ever seen. When I put batteries in, the meter appears to work, when I push the shutter release I can hear a click, however by dry firing with the back open, I am not seeing the shutter fire. Will this camera not fire without film, or is it just dead?

I just got a GSN, and it fires with the back open at any speed without film. I know there is supposed to be a doable fix for that problem, but it sounds like the mechanism in the lens that fires the shutter is out of adjustment. You might want to go to Matt Denton's Classic Cameras website for a start, and track down info from there. There are a lot of Yashica links in the Yashica Rangefinder section of his page and I think a tutorial on this fix.

just to check....if there isn't battery, Electro fires at 1/500 which...well, do shutter leafs travel at all or clearly they even don't move ?

I just took the batteries out and it still isn't firing, I do notice that when I press the shutter release, there is a sort of scratchy or a crinkling sort of sound. I don't know if that has anything to do with the problem or not.

Here's one further sympton that I have noticed since first discovering the problem. The self timer is also jammed, does this lead to any other possible solutions?

It is worth repeating: On classic cameras it is not advisable to use the self-timer. It is a delicate mechanism and prone to problems after many years and certainly not worth the effort to repair. Good luck with the other repair. The Yashica camera and lens are very good.

try to change the apperture and press the shuter while in bulb mode you will be able to see the light come through... unless the leaves are stuck.. ´goodluck.
