Hi guys,

Got a Yashica GX which I believe:
a) battery test light don't light up
b) over-exposing badly (ie when i compare it to another Yashica GSN) by 3-4 stops

I'm located in Bayswater London, any idea where I can get it fix or better still, anyone out in RFF who would able to provide advise as to how to DIY it or help me fix it for a reasonable fee?

Thank you in advance,

Jimmy

Is the battery any good? Are the contacts corroded?
Do both cameras use the same battery type? If yes then what happens if you swap batteries between the cameras?

Guys for the help, really appreciate them.

Richard C, I must admit i am currently using LR44 1.5v X2 stuff into one of the chambers with the empty chamber filled with a cut up spring. Maybe I should try using Silver Oxide batteries instead of the LR44. Found a shop selling the original shaped batteries but at £5 each, not to my taste. Will try swapping batteries to Silver Oxide and if that don't work most like will try Yashica Guy's page and it fail, move to the repair guys.

Honestly, truely appreciate all the assistance with the matter.

Jim,

I would not expect any difference in performance from the LR44 compared to the SR version, providing they are both new. However, the LR will drop its voltage much more quickly than the SR under load. I have worked on may G series cameras and would always advise silver oxide batteries (it's all I use in any camera).

If you want a battery adapter, PM me and I'll send you one of mine - works as well as a Yashica Guy one, but it's only £2 incl post and made from rigid plastic, not a piece of PVC hose.

Might be worth checking if you have some rot in the battery lead, but that's a top-plate off job. Not difficult, and I would offer to do it for you, but I'm about to move house :)
