Yashica GX Warning Light Not Working

This has been a valuable forum for me just to lurk around in and I thank all of you for contributing. Now, this lurker has a specific question for you.
I was just given an Electro GX and find the "over" exposure warning light is not functioning. Is this a problem for shooting? How can it be repaired...or is this a "send it to an expert" fix?

Never had a GX, Rick, but I'd say "no" with a caveat. Having owned and used almost exclusively "Electros" for several years with the same system, you seldom get an overexposure warning. Happens, but not all that often - usually with high speed films in bright sunshine. Underexposure? LOL - yeah, alla time if you're always trying to shoot in available darkness - which is why you get those cameras in the first place. If it's just a light, might be an easy fix. I wouldn't bother if it was "just" a GSN but for such a fine rarity like a GX, I'd spring to send it to Mark Hama and have it serviced for around $100.

Thanks, NickTrop, for the info. I think I'll shoot with it until I decide to have it CLA'd then have it looked at. It's my first G and I think I'm hooked!

Hey - no biggie. Are you sure it's broken? Set it to 1000 ISO, open up the aperture to 1.8 and point it at a bright light. I've shot G's and thought the overexposure light was broken it came on so infrequently (- except for the CC I got later, where it always seemed to pop on.) But even if you overexpose by a stop or two, sometimes the pics come out better if using print film, which loves light and is really hard to overexpose. But I'd have it serviced if you like the camera, which is a fine/rare one. It's not that expensive and well worth it. Hama does great work (and there's rumors he's retiring soon) at a reasonable price. Do it, and the camera should work for a long, long time.

It doesn't seem to light up at all. You're right though, I'll have to make it all work just to feel good . I'll check out Hama as I've heard very good things about his work. Thanks for your advice.

Have you shot a test roll? If it's working well, I'd say just use it.

Mark is terrific; did two Yashicas for me, both operate perfectly.
