Hi!

I bought an Yashica Lynx 14e for US$ 30.00
It's in very good shape, lenses are A+
Shutter works

But everything else was a mess

Battery cover was stuck, aperture was stuck, finder was stuck
Lots of dirty (light seal)

Following instructions from some sites on repairing Lynx I could manage to get it working again

I still have some issues:

- It seems there were two small lamps for the metering (under and over exposure?) mine has none,
some bad guy ruined it (only the wiring was left, two red two white). With battery on its place a can read with multimeter,
so I can guess which is for over and which is for under exposure. I need help on which kind of lamp I can use there and its colors.

- As finder was messed up, I tried adjusting it (I am not experienced on it). With camera on a tripod I put a subject 0.8m far and adjusted focus to 0.8
image on finder was doubled so I gave a try on screw to linear adjust. Now I guess it is ok. Would it be just that? Any other care for adjusting the finder?

- Finder's paralax correction screen was dead (the one on the right, next to battery chamber).
I noted that it was making no contact to the piece which is moved when lens focus is turned.
I guessed its position. Now it's moving, but I'm not sure if it's working the right way.

- I also have an Electro 35 (not so good shape) whose focus ring can be turned very softly. My Lynx makes some noise while turning its focus ring.
Sometimes it goes more softly, sometimes not, sometimes it's hard to turn it. Could it be something inside the lens barrel? Bad lubrification?
Or could it be something in the camera body?

Does anyone have the service manual for this camera who could share?

I know that the right way would be sending it to a professional.
I know one but its cost would be prohibitive (for me), just replacing light seals would cost what I've paid for it.

Thanks in advance
Marcelo.

Marcelo,

Some folks replace the lamps with LED's (Yellow for the Under, and Red for the Over). You will need a diode for each.

You need to adjust the infinty focus on the rangefinder first. Then check the other settings working back towards the camera.

I've read about others concern about stiff and gritty focusing on Lynx's, so it may be a common fault. Don't own one, so I can't be of much help there.

If the bright framelines in the finder move toward the lens as you focus closer, then you got it back together correctly.

I bought a 'Service Manual' for the G series, and it turned out to be a collection of certain pages from the complete version, with not much explanation as to what was going on. Good luck with that. Sometimes service bulletins are a better source of material.

thank you!

Now I'm confused because the board at the bottom of the camera looks that have been messed up. I'm not sure if the wiring is soldered the right way. I couldn't find a picture of it anywhere.

If one could take a picture of it and post it here would be very nice.
