I followed up Delible's suggestions re repair shops. No Joy there, but I'll keep looking.
As a sort of a compensation I bought a Yashica Profile 4000iX ( a simplified Samurai for the APS format) new (in original packaging) for $3 off eBay. Half way through my first film now.
