I have been reading up on two cameras that have the Carl Zeiss lens. One is the Contax TVSIII and the other is the Yashica Kyocera T Zoom. The T Zoom extends from 28mm-70mm while the Contax zooms from 30-60mm.

I have a friend who raves about the quality of the lens on the T Zoom (he also adores the Yashica T4 fixed lens).

I haven't heard much about the TVSIII. I read that the TVSII had substantial light fall off wide open but that could be idle internet chatter.

Does anyone have experience with the TVSIII? Has anyone made comparisons between these two cameras? Are their lens the same?

Thankyou

I use to own both the TVS and TVS III and different times. Both had similar amounts of moderate to high light fall off, but the TVS III was sharper. Fall off was worst wide open and at the shorter focal lengths, improving somewhat stopping down or zoomed out but still evident under the best of circumstances if you're picky. I'm a slide shooter so that makes it more noticable since images look sharper with better saturation slightly underexposed and this makes cornerfall off more noticable. The TVS III is still a great camera though and if shooting at least 200 or 400 speed negative film, you can't go wrong.

I've owned both in the past. Really though, there's no comparison. The TVSIII pictures far exceeded the T zoom pictures. Better contrast and sharper. But they had a look, a character that made you notice them. The T zoom was a decent taker but nothing special. You'd look through the shots and think nice. That's it though. Not in the same league as the TVSIII. Just my opinion.

I wish I still had my TVSIII. Not bothered about the T zoom. That says a lot in my book.
