We are clearing house as we are getting ready to move to Alaska. Anyway, I found a Yeshiva T4 in one of my wife's drawers. Now I remember buying it for her perhaps in the early 1990's and I remember it was considered a great point and shoot because of the Zeiss 35f3.5 lens. Well, I put a new battery in and the camera seems fully functional. The waist level finder is a hoot.

What else can anyone tell me about this camera?

It's a good camera. The lens is sharp. The waist level finder is fun. I find it turns on a bit slow since all control are locked until the flash finish charging itself. That's about it. I think its performance is on par with other similar speced camera with good lenses like the Ricoh FF-90.

Because the Zeiss stamp it fetches a ridiculous price which in my book is way too high for what it is. For almost the same price You can even buy the same, MS-Optical converted lens in M mount...

I never used a T4 but I did buy a dead one and had Miyazaki san convert the lens to an M mount. It's a great Tessar and tiny too.

WOW, I just looked on eBay at Yashica T4's. It seems the average price is about $500. I actually rescued it off the garage sale table my wife held last weekend. We would probably have taken $5.

I bought one from a thrift store for $3 early this year. I was surprised to find out when I got home that it was selling for much much more on ebay.

Ended up selling it for $400 on facebook. I eventually decided to let it go after reading numerous posts on the web about sudden death problems as is common with electronic p&s cameras.

They are a touch overrated i think. I have had one for 25 years now. Good camera, but for the same price you can get a Ricoh GR1 which is one of the best. Not even close. The Olympus Stylus/Mju cameras are just as good. In fact the Mju II is faster. Still the T4 is one of the bettery point and shoots. If it wasn't for the prices of the Contax T3/T3 they probably wouldn't be so expensive.

One of the best money makers I ever had. Got it free from a customer as she didn't like it. I used it for two years with gret reults and eventually sold it for $400. Pure profit!

I agree completely...

How much is that lens conversion to M mount?

Is it fiddly to use in real life?

I love the quality of the lens. Something about the Zeiss optics makes colors really pop.

I have a T4 that works sporadically. Sometimes after a shot, it makes sort of a dying motor sound and doesn't advance the film and locks up. I've changed the battery etc but it's frustrating to use but still takes great pics.

Would love to slap the lens on my M9 though.

The reason they are so expensive now is that one of the Jenner/Kardashian girls was shown with a Contax T2 which drove the price through the roof on those. It was the "it" accessory for a certain group of people. This then trickled down to the T4 with a similar lens and form factor.

I often see hipster NY fashion girls toting some form of film point and shoot around. The trend now seems to have extended into 80s manual SLRs as well judging by my recent travels around Tokyo.

Clean out your drawers and profit while the gettings good.

Nightfly, I can't remember exactly the cost. I had it done by Miyazaki san in Japan, through Japan Camera Hunters. It was not fiddly to use at all. I think it would be a perfect lens for the CL or Minolta CLE. I sold it because I went to screwmounts for my small camera.
