Yashinon 5cm 1.8 LTM

I really love this lens. I haven't seen much posted about it (and few images) so I figured I'd share a few. I'm bound to return with more images in the future so we may as well start a thread for anyone else using the lens.

The contrast and resolution are exactly give me exactly the look I wanted in this lens. None of these photos had any sharpening applied - just a small amount of curve editing to compensate for not-exactly-perfect exposures.

(I actually thought about picking up a backup before starting this thread just in case others started driving the price up!) 😉

Nice pictures. I nearly bought a Yashica Nicca with this lens on, many years ago. Not sure why I didn't, now.

Yeah, I kinda wish my YF came with it, instead of the Canon 1.8/50. But just for originality sake, as both lenses are good performers. The Yashicors were sold only on the home market cameras.

Furcafe, your shots with the lens were among those which inspired me to pick one up.

That and a comparison series against other lenses from the time period on flickr. The Yashinon did very well there. My favorite with the exception of a very modern Leica lens which cost several times more than this one. 🙂

Nice stuff. I have a Yashicor as well as this LTM Yashica 50mm. Nothing to share online. I should change that.

One thing I have noticed is that the Yashinon's components appear to be very similar to the the Canon RF 50/1.8 (haven't done any side by side tests to see if they're optically similar, too) & that the RF frameline mechanism in the YF appears very similar to that in the Nikon SP. I've always been curious as to whether the same subcontractors in Japan performed work for the different camera & optical companies.

Obviously there is a huge amount of variability here but this lens holds up very well in my opinion.

I have one of these lenses and think well of it. I'm in the process of scanning some negs, should be able to share soon. I have not yet found a lens hood that fits. Anybody here know the filter size for the thing? The flickr set is interesting. It mostly tells me that the mid-fast normal lens problem has been pretty well solved for a long time now.

The filter is a standard 43mm. Try HeavyStar or if you have access The Yama one is sure cool 😀

Thanks for the filter info! I've been thinking it was probably close to 43, but haven't been certain.
