Looking for a little help. A couple years ago a friend gave me the remains of his film equipment and it included a Yashica SLR and this lens (Yashinon DX 50mm 1.4).

The SLR has a screw mount (I gather this is the M42 mount?). This lens, however, has a bayonet mount. So is this the Contax/Yashica mount? And, if so, would I be able to use this adapter to use it on a NEX:

It's a lovely thing.

You don't need to spend $200+ on an adapter. The cheapest one on eBay is just as good. You can spend under $30.

The adapter does nothing but make a mechanical connection. You focus on the screen so the accuracy of the coupling makes no difference. Don't get suckered.

I haven't got to the adaptor part yet although I've read on numerous sites, comments, etc. that cheap adapters wear out and that it's worth spending more. YMMV.

I really just need to confirm the lens mount.

Triple correct!

Case not closed.

The adaptor arrived today and the lens doesn't fit. There's actually no way to even get the lens to sit flush with the adaptor in any position.

I'm going to take it in to the used camera shop tomorrow and see if I can figure out what's going on. Looks like the adaptor will be returned.

Show a picture of the mount will ya? You may be looking at a M42 lens (Screw mount) that has bayonet mount adapter ring screwed onto it. M42 was convertible to Pentax K, Yashica, and, other mounts. Don't automatically assume it's Yashica/Contax. As well the DX line was but for a couple of exceptions limited to M42 mount. I have never seen a 1.4/50mm in DX coating and C/Y mount. The only C/Y mount DX I have seen is a f2/50mm.

Show a pic if you need any further help.

Cheers!

Didn't have time to post the pic.

But brought it in today to the used camera shop. Andy you were right, it is a screw mount with an adaptor (K-mount). I wasn't able to unscrew the adaptor but the fellow at the shop got it off.

It didn't mount to either Pentax body they had, on my lens and on another. Oddly, they had two new adaptors in stock and neither mounted to the bodies either.

So it turns out I have a screw mount Yashinon and a (probably) useless M42-K-mount adaptor.
