Based on reports from MelanieC and Rich, I rushed off my two M4-P's for a much needed CLA. That was less than two weeks ago. They're home now, smelling like they've been worked on and operating smoothly (like butta) with clear bright viewfinders!

Here's what I had:

one camera: no shutter speeds below 1/60th with dust in the VF

one camera: inconsistent shutter speeds below 1/60th with a very foggy VF

$80/camera + return shipping ($10). Great communication. Fast service.

Yay Youxin!

how do i contact

how do i contact

after such a glowing report hows about some contact info?
Robert,

He's so fast that even if you put it off for a few weeks it'll still be no time before you get the camera back.

Glad to see Youxin getting some more business from RFF. I am so pleased with the job he did on my M3.

Well I'm glad he's back! He seemed to have disappeared for a while.

One thing is for sure, if I ever visit Boston (he's there, right?), I'll be sure to bring my M2 with me 🙂

And even if I don't, I'll also choose him if he accepts cameras from overseas.

The US does not charge Customs on cameras coming IN. My guess is that he will take the work.

I just sent him an email regarding info about his availability and accepting new work from me (ready to send M3 for CLA).

my money is where my mouth is -- I think your testimony is proof enough of his good work.

Yikes! That's what Sherry and DAG charge for parts (grease, rings etc) alone. I have got to try this. Thanks!

He is close. His town is south-west of the city. As far as I can remember his day job is (was) in the city.

He's in Canton, Massachusetts right off I-95 south of Boston.

Hey, Ray, I told you Youxin is the best!

I don't know why people put up with slow service and sky high prices from Sherry and all the rest.

Youxin rocks - but on the other hand, if he gets too popular, his rates may go up! ;-)

That's been known to happen. There was a guy in Carolina or Virginia who repairs screw mounts and he was doing overhauls for around $80-85 and one Leica dealer I know was using him. Last time I spoke with them they said he'd raised his rates to the same that DAG charges. Unless he's in a high tax bracket and his accountant told him not to make any more money, if for the sake of his pride alone, I can't imagine Youxin continuing to do what DAG and Sherry do for about a quarter of the rate. Unless of course his overhaul isn't as extensive as theirs. Anyhow I kind of perversely hope he keeps his rates low and lots of people send to him. That way if I ever need mine serviced maybe Don or Sherry's dance cards won't be so full and I'll get it back sooner 😀

Hey it's the end result that matters right? It don't matter to me if indeed Youxin does less work than DAG or Sherry... maybe DAG and Sherry are doing & charging for more work than necessary? Have you thought about that? I anticipate, that if it ever gets to the point where Dag and sherry's business becomes as slow as you would hope, then they'll be forced to lower their rates to Youxin's. 😀

Did you know that Sears charge $20 for tire rotations, where as my dealer charges $100? Albeit the dealer does have a prettier waiting room... Hmmmm doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this one out.

So long as his work is top-notch, and it seems like that is the general consensus, he can be justifiably proud. I am sure he knows what DAG and Krauter's rates are. The fact that he charges a comparatively reasonable rate, just adds conscientiousness to great workmanship. Bravo to Youxin.

I don't see any actual contact information on the www.nemeng.com site. Anyone care to post his contact information? thanks.

He's right here:

It's not that Goldberg or Krauter spend more time on your camera... your camera spends more time with them sitting in their "INBOX" waiting to be repaired or CLAed or whatever.

As I mentioned in a prior post, Youxin repaired and CLAed an M-4 for me in under a half hour. No magic to it. He did it while I waited.

He did make the point that, in general, Leicas are very well engineered and very well made so that taking them apart and fixing them is actually easier and more straightforward than servicing a lot of other gear.

As far as rates are concerned, the others charge what the market will bear. If Youxin is charging $80 for a job that takes 30 minutes, he's still making $160 an hour, which is not bad for a part time gig.

He keeps his overhead low and passes the benefits to his customers!
