Well, as some may/may not have known I've been looking for a light meter for a little while. Well I ran into some luck today. I was browsing craigslist (a website for classifieds basically) for my area and noticed a sekonic flashmate l-308bII for sale for $125 dollars... The owner had bought the light meter for a class about two years ago but had never used it. Literally... so I met with the seller and ended up snagging the meter for around $105 USD! Quite cheap considering the exquisite condition of the meter.

So now I no longer have to try to lug around my huge DSLR as a light meter for my Zorki 4k shots. 😀

Needless to say most of my negatives should be much much better exposed now. 😀

I realized after two rolls of film I had taken last week that I needed a light meter... I had been shooting on a cloudy day and all of my shots were quite under exposed. My guestimation of the sunny 16 rule was quite off.

Anyway, Im still trying to find some decent scanners owned by my school so I can scan in some of my negatives (or even prints) out.

As much as people like to espouse "sunny-16" for dealing with meterless cameras, a rudimentary light meter (at least) can't hurt. I speak as someone who was spoiled from the start with my first 35mm camera with (non-TTL) metering, and never seriously considered hand-hels meters as more than a collectible throwback. But now, having a Sekonic L-428, I've mended my ways...mostly. 😉

Sunny 16?

Sunny 16?

The 'Sunny 16' rule should be the 'Sunny 11' rule in northern latitudes. Tht's my experience in the UK.

Joking aside it’s been a poor year for photography so far I’ve used just 13x36 exposures year to date about 60-70% down on normal, just not had the light.
I had a project I’d intended doing, “local cricket”, and have only about four shots so far
🙁

Congrats on the light meter. Carrying one around makes the experience of carrying a fsu around that much more exciting. My Leningrad 6 is in my bag with me at all times.

Sunny 16 usually works pretty well. Its when it's not noon, or not sunny, that things get interesting. I used to use the data sheets that used to come with all films. It worked very well. Now if I am not using a camera with a meter, it is either the Gossen Luna Pro or the sbc.

For some reason, I sort of prefer the Luna Pro. I guess I like its slightly smaller size, and that I am not as comfortable with the zeroing of the sbc as I should be. I guess I need to work on that as both are good meters. In fact, the scb seems a little better in lower light, as it should be.

By the way, congrats on getting the Sekonic. I used a Sekonic L28c2 for years and loved it.
