Yayy! Tetenal chemistry from Freestyle

Yes that tetenal kits are great and as long as you are near the right temp no problem, I've just switched to using the Rollei digibase kit its works out cheaper you can mix the chemical in smaller amounts and they also have a much longer shelf life.
 
Tetenal chemistry is top notch. Typical German attention to detail. Don't forget the ancillary chamistry as well. Mirasol is an amazing product as an alternative to photo flo. It puts the finishing touch on sparkling negatives and has a fungicide effect too.

I can't help but to comment on this.
My guess is Jan's usage of the phrase "ass-kicking" is more akin to "kick into gear" not "beat up until submission" -kind of connotation.

I also think FS does a good job of providing options of products with some of their house brands competing with the name brands. Either way, they deserve the kudos to keep the DIY spirit alive in film developing.

In the UK the 1 litre Tetenal C41 2-bath kit costs less than £18 and officially can process upto 16 films.

However, there are reports on Flickr groups and elsewhere that you can exceed the official minimum and get perfectly good results, though obviously with a higher level of risk.

Still I think Freestyle does all they can for us within the confines of the sales and distribution agreements they have to deal with.

On Digibase:

It has not happened to me but several people reported receiving the Rollei Digibase C-41 kits with leaked chemicals. Some sort of packaging problems.

I don't remember reading any reports like that for Tetenal chems.

I like the Digibase kit a lot but will probably buy Tetenal C-41 again next time. I am also interested to try their E-6.

Well sorry, probably we've had a bit of a misunderstanding here because of my horrible English.
In German we have a term "Jemanden in den Hintern treten" if we think he is a bit too lazy, and we want him to overcome this and get more active.
Probably my quite straight translation into English is not the best to express what I intended to say.

Freestyle do a relative good job in general.
But I think that they could and should do much better in these hard times for film.
Nowadays you have to do much more than 15 years ago to keep film running.
I've already mentioned that they don't have offered or still just don't offer some excellent products which are easily available in Europe.
Tetenal is one of the worlds leading manufacturers for photo chemistry. For decades.
That Freestyle is just yet offering some of their products....well years too late in the game.

And Freestyle is always proudly saying they are one of the biggest film sellers worldwide.
Okay, if that is true than they have to start a marketing concept for film as a photographic medium.
That is what the market needs today.
Only selling film is enough anymore. That has worked 15 yeras ago. But these times are gone now.

Film needs marketing!
Freestyle wants to make a living by selling film, therefore it is their duty to start marketing for film (of course it is also the duty of AG-Photographic, Fotoimpex/Adox, Maco, ars-imago, foto-r3, fotohuis RoVo and all the others specialised film distributors).

By the way: For you Americans who don't know Tetenal products: They are all top-notch quality.
Ultrafin liquid for example is a metol-hydrochinone developer like D-76 and ID-11 with about the same speed and grain size as D-76 1+1, but with even more sharpness and better shelf life of the developer concentrate. No hassle with powder like D-76 and ID-11.
Ultrafin Plus is almost identical to T-Max developer.
Neofin Blau is excellent with Ilford Pan F+ and all Efke films. Outstanding sharpness and full speed.
Emofin is a two bath developer with very high speed and fine grain. Best to tame high contrasts.
Their C-41 and E-6 kits are excellent, too
 
Looks like Freestyle has Tetenal kits in stock, although they don't have some of them showing on their website. I just placed an order for E-6 kit. 6x6 chromes, here I come...
 
According to Freestyle's description of Neofin Blue / Blau, $20 gets you five 30ml bottles. Each 30ml bottle makes 500 to 700 ml of working developer. It's a one-shot developer, so shelf life of working solution isn't an issue. You're going to use it once after mixing and then discard it.

500 ml of solution is enough to fill a developing tank that holds 2 35mm reels or 1 120 reel. So basically, each 30ml bottle will develop 2 to 3 rolls of 35mm film, or 1 to 2 rolls of 120 film, depending on dilution. That's assuming that the developer is active enough for that much film in 500 to 700 ml. I don't know, since I haven't used it.
