YE35 cleaning the RF

Hi, got my Yashica electro 35 GSN 2 weeks ago form eBay, I've tested it and it's very nice, one problem is the Ranefinder ..it's hard to see the ghost image. I have decided to (pray and) try clean it according to the instructions on Yashica-guy site. One thing which I can't understand is what glue should I use for attaching the RF cover back to it's place? Is it some kind of epoxy? another issue is the golden part - I understand it's risky to try and clean it.. I'm willing to take the risk if the chances that I'll get a decent RF, thact is contrasty as should, are significantly higher - should I do that? thanks in advance!

Hi,

Do not use epoxy - you will never be able to remove the cover again if you do!

If you understand US terminology, use Elmers glue. If you are elsewhere in the world, this is a sort of contact adhesive. Other brands I have come across that should work would be Uhu and Copydex. Anything that you can roll into little balls in your fingers (like snot - sorry!) should be OK, just make sure you apply it sparingly.

As to the gold coating, I have successfully cleaned this with a very soft Q-tip and pure alcohol. It is a risk and one that you have to decide on yourself - I was not too worried as the body I was working on was a clunker anyway. It worked for me but YMMV!

BTW I found Elmer's yellow glue at home - is it fine too?
