I had an R1 for several years till if tested gravity from the top of a TV. Still have it, when I have time might try to get it back together.
Pictures were wonderful. Size was perfect. Only PHd (Press Here Dummy) that I ever liked (wife had several). You got a great price, very well done!

Congratulations. I'm sure that you will love the GR1, it is a very capable camera with a great lens. I have used the GR1v mainly for colour slide film and gives good exposures. I had though of selling it recently but am now getting some more use with B&W film. you got a good deal at $125.
Let us know what you think of it.

Perhaps you can tell me what shutter speeds it uses when 30 or 500 is flashing....does it uses then 1/30 or 1/500 or does it, in case of 1/30, or goes is lower then 1/30? Is the shutter speed in that case noticable one or the other way?
And is there any difference how it uses shutter speeds in the case above in Programm mode or Apature mode?
Thanks!

I had figured that flashing 500th indicates over exposure but that flashing 30th indicates that it is using speeds below 30th (I think down to 2sec).
i will have a further look at mine. I do remember downloading a manual online that had good info, forgot where it was, have a search...

I have the GR1, and the Hexar, and the fixed lens Minilux. All three are great. I think the Hex and the Leica have better lenses and are better cameras, but I love the feel and ease of use of the Ricoh. Unlike the Hexar AF and the Minilux, the GR1 has a very p&s feel.
I took the Ricoh to Costa Rica and it didn't fair too well. I think the humidity and abrupt temperature change (between the hotel room and the outside ambient) may have affected it a little. The LCD display started acting up. I thought it was a battery issue, but a replacement didn't improve things. When I got back to California, it was back to normal. I'm happy.

I got the manual but it doesn't tell anything about shutterspeeds when is flashes 30 or 500...the hexar for example can be fixed in P mode to a minimal shutter speed (mine is that 1/8s). In A-mode it overrules if I'm correct.
But I'm wondering how the GR1 acts in this cases.
