Nobody said "a fed bear is a dead bear" until the early 1970s.
Jellystone?....isn't that where Yogi Bear lived? (remember him? ) 😀
Here's what I always wonder about feeding bears: What happens when the food runs out? Do the bears go away? Do you say, "No more food, Mr. Bear" and watch them amble away politely?
It was absolutely 'nuts' to venture out of the car in a situation like that. Bears are unpredictable and difficult to read. Last time I was in Yellowstone (1991) a tourist had just been attacked by a bear and bitten in the face (they usually do that). When the guy woke up again at the hospital, he had asked; 'do I have any brains left?' according to the local radio.
We have just had two recent fatal bear attacks here in Scandinavia. A hunter with dog in Sweden and a Finish policeman out jogging in Finland.
A couple Kodachrome Slides I ran across this afternoon- Taken in 1954 in Yellowstone by my Grandfather with an Argus C4 which I still have. The car is a '54 Pontiac by the way- my dad was inside feeding the bears marshmallows. 🙄
