Yet another bag

AKPTC -- Yup, that's the bag. You can see it's got that funky day-glo junk on it, but I think that's actually a benefit, disguise-wise, unless it offends your sense of personal dignity (might not go that well with the navy blue suit and Hermes tie.) I didn't know how heavy it was, but I also have a similar-sized Lowepro (the 104), and it didn't feel noticably heavier. I've been walking it around for a week now, and I still like it. Which for me is, like, a record.

Nikola: great bag. A woman who can sew is a huge asset, aside from any other assets she might have. My own wife, long ago, made the best mountain jacket I've ever owned, out of a sewing kit. I wore it for 20 years, until it was virtually a rag...but, unfortunatley, she doesn't do bags.

As a bag fan, I like the looks of the M classic and the Domkes, but when traveling, I want something that doesn't say "camera bag." Cheap cameras aren't usually carried in camera bags, which makes almost any dedicated camera bag worth stealing; and when I finally get my hands on an M8, the bag (with seven lenses and a laptop) would be worth ~ $23,000. So I prefer a bag that looks like it might have sandwiches inside...

The one I described above is quite nice, but it does look like a book bag; a little garish, even. Has tie-downs for extra equipment on the sides, and a bungee-cord arrangment on the back where you might stuff a jacket. I don't think there is a model number... I couldn't find one anywhere on the bag. I think it's just the Case Logic SLR bag...made in China.

i don't think the mclassic looks like a camera bag.
most people associte the camera bag with a big square thing.

i have 2 mclassics and i use one for a day bag. perfect for one camera and some film along with whatever i need for work etc.

I found a very nice selection of Artisan and Artist* bags on this following Web site. The are sold by Photo Village, an RFF sponsor. Has anyone ever used one of these bags? The Oskar's One Day bag is the one that interests me.

I'm using a foldable 6 pack canvas cooler bag from Longs which was on sale and nicely holds an *ist, a RF with cover, an extra K-mount lens, filters, and film. It was like $6 and is padded well with the built in anti-freeze goop.

I like the M-classic as well. On a recent trip I carried an M6 w/ 1 lens, G2 w/ 3 lenses and assorted accouterments. The bag is nice enough to use in a dressier environment and offers great accessibility for "grab" shots. I like to use one of Gordy's wrist stapas and rest my camera on top of the bag as walk. I'm not worried about my bag "screaming" at anyone. To quote the words of one more conservative than I, "from my cold, dead hands....."

Where to find good inserts, padding?

I am using this $15 old canvas bag - most comfy I've ever had. But it has no inserts, so I am using craft-store foam (not so good) to protect the camera.

Wondering where one could buy inserts of the thickness and quality found in the Artisans & Artists' bags..

akptc, I think Crumpler sells some inserts. Their bags are nice to I hear.

I happen to have a set of inserts which may be of use to you. They are made for the Billingham Alice / L2 bags, a complete set of four and are brand new and unused. The Alice and L2 are small bags made for rangefinder cameras and from the look of your pictures your bag is similar in size. I am in the UK and asking £10 including shipping. I can accept paypal for a speedy deal.

I've finally decided that my Crumpler Pizza Medium is not big enough - I'm thinking of getting a Hadley Pro because then I can also use it as a manbag under the pretence that I'm using to carry my camera stuff.

Had anyone here got one / got any photos of it with stuff inside (their website is useless for this).

PS Ideally I'd like to carry a Bessa R2a with CV40,f/1.4, a CV21, f/4 + finder, Ruski 85,f/2 and a F80 with 50,f/1.8. Then some film &c. Not all of that all the time but sometimes it is needed.

I have been using a Domke copy for a while now. I usually just carry my R3A with lens and an additional lens. I could even throw a slr in there too if i wanted. I usually just keep 1 seperator in. Put the extra lens and filters in one if the front pockets. This way I can use it as a daily "Man Bag"

Paul, thank you for the offer, these actually look like they could work. I am waiting for my new-used M-bag to arrive, apparently it has some padding, so will have to see.

Bill and Jim, thank you for the tips. The Crumpler insert looks quite sturdy and the dimensions are near-perfect for my cheap bag.

The way folks constantly rearrange their camera bags, one would think that there would be more choices in padded inserts. Wonder what I am missing here...
