I took today one roll of XP2 with my newly acquired Konica S2. I have read many good things about this camera, and many users insist that it is "the best" el-cheapo camera anywhere. I am quite impressed what this camera can offer.
I will not repeat what others have already stated about it, but will show some photos from this roll. These are snapshots and I am not even vaguely suggesting that there is some artistic value here. I am showing the photos to illustrate the qualities of the lens. I am impressed by it.

Some nice work. Don't apologize that they're snapshots, taking a good snapshot is a darn bit harder than most people will generally give you credit. Lens looks like it worked very well. What are your impressions of the Konica compared to any other fixed lens rangefinders you've used? I'm curious as I'm playing the eBay lottery and may or may not have a working S2 in about a week. (Bought from an "I don't know anything about cameras" seller that seemed genuine to me, so I'm hoping that even if it doesn't work it's at least fixable.)

Okay, why do we always ask these kinds of questions AFTER we buy, and not before? 😕

Duane:

The Konica S2 does have the same feel as a Leica M camera or a Canon P. The metal body looks stamped and the "click" does not have the reassurance of a Leica click. I recently exercised a Konica S (not S2) to get the aperture to open, with grave results. I messed up the film advance mechanism and who knows what else. This showed me that such cameras are not built with the same quality as Leicas or Canon or Nikon rangefinder cameras. What the S2 has is a great lens. It is also a way to enjoy purity by having only one lens available.
The S2 is fully manual without batteries and when using a battery you can use the Automatic setting and use the meter.

It certainly is worth the little sum of money spent on getting the S2.
