Since I was bored yesterday and had some frames left on a roll of APX400 I figured I´ll check my lenses again (too much work and no time for shooting makes me a frustrated lens tester 😛 )

Whats new:
First there´s Joes Summicron C wich I really love (fit´s the M6 about perferctly and is soooo small...also the 35mm Framelines grow on to me)
I did´t compensate for FOV difference compared to 50mm but the lens shows it´s quality nevertheless

Secondly I have frankensteined two Jupiter-3 lenses into a working one! 😀
I purchased a black 1981 Jupiter3 but the lens is decentered badly. that day I found out that my also decentered 1951 J3 was just really bad reasambled and could be centered again with refitting the back lens group! The focus mount of the 1951 version was faulty tho so I fitted the optical block of the 1951 to the mount of the 1981 and colimated on M6 with groundglass and 21mm lens(loupe).
Even looks cool!!

The others in the group are my Nokton 50/1.5 the Summicron coll. 50/2 and the Summitar 50/2

The performance of the lenses is speaking for itself...all are kinda good with the Nokton as clear winner and cronC a close second place.
The Summicron coll. should improve severely at smaller f-stops but I hadn´t any frames left..wide open it´s so-so
The Jupiter kinda looses out at 1.5 and 2.0 but at 4 gains all the sharpness needed. bokeh in real life is awesome and I like the tonal rendition because of lower contrast but this is not what this test is about.

The Scanns are untouched so contrast is what I got on the negs. two 100% crops for your peeping enjoyment 😉

(after X-mas there hopefully is an Ultron 28 joining the group...at least if I was nice enough over the year ...I freakin damn was...wasn´t I ? 😉 )

yeah, alright, i unbderstand your motivation, but i'm not sure lens tests on a 35mm iso400 film make much sense. Maybe yes for bokeh and contrast, but nothing else... E.,g. the jupi-3 wide open loses lots of contrast whifch might make it look less sharp due to the big grains...

Hi pherdinand,
Sorry but I disagree with you! This test is not intended to show absolute sharpness or quality but comparable results under conditions wich are encountered in the dark months (hence the "fast" 400 iso film ... normaly I would shoot HP5@1600 or Neopan now) ... ok ok the "test" could be more complete or thought out but I allready stated it was born out of boredom...

at the moment what counts most is good contrast wide open plus flare proof performance and good enough sharpness (how sharp can a lens be @ 1/15sec... dumb)
plus I think the APX 400 is sharp enough (even if it´s grainy)

Sure absolute sharpness could be tested with smaller apertures at changing lens-subject distances on Pan25 Film but this won´t be very practical or usefull at the moment! (i did compare the Nokton/Summicron coll @f5.6 @ inf on pan25 in summer and the cron won...nice but that doesn´t mean a little thing under the conditions at the moment were the Nokt. smokes the cron @ 1.5!)

However: I appreciate that you wanted to use realistic parameters for the test - but then, why a Cartman scene, why not a real scene that one would most probably photograph with iso400 and handheld 1/15s ?

simple: the reply of my girlfriend when I asked her to pose for me made me think I´ll be better off with the friendly face of Stan ;-)
