I spent some time going through my new (to me) GS today. I replaced the seals with new ones ordered from Interslice, and replaced the POD with a neoprene piece. Popped in the battery and it came to life.!

I shot a roll of film through it and everything seems to work correctly - focusing, metering - hooray! I was very lucky to find a like new GS complete with the accesory kit, hard case, eveready case, filters - even the original "yashica" labelled silica gel pack! Now the camera works as good as it looks. Millions of thanks to all who have posted on this forum - the information here is so helpful, and I couldn't have gotten the camera up and running without it.

A couple of things I can pass on to others who may be rehabbing one of these. First, the light-seal kits from Interslice are worth every penny of the $6 cost. It makes it very easy to do the job, and it turns out very professional looking. He even sent a PDF of instructions specific to the camera model, and I have enough excess material to seal 6 more cameras at least.

Second is about the infamous "pad of death". I replaced mine "through the top" without removing the shutter assembly. I slid it in using pins as others have noted. The one thing worth mentioning is that you need a separate pin to hold down the plate underneath the pad as you slide it in. Also, I wouldn't recommend using super glue, as it is too tight a space and you would probably stick it somewhere you don't want it. I used 5-minute epoxy which gave me some time to slide it around and into place. You do have to be careful not to get any glue onto the meter-aperture leafs (controlled by the ISO) as you put the pad into place. I learned this the hard way, and had to unstick my leaf.

Thanks again to all on this forum! I'm looking forward to using this camera .

I recently bought a GS and I love it. I replaced the seals with neoprene but I still seem to have leaks through the hinge - I always get the same vertical line on almost every frame. Does INTERSLICE have a site? Does anyone have an image of how that part of the seal is supposed to look like? Thanks in advance.

Hi -

I got the INTERSLICE seal kit from ebay - INTERSLICE is the name of the seller/ebay store. He will send you a PDF showing how to install the seals in the GS.
