While it has become "totally uncool" to post yet another thread on which camera equipment to take (with me) on a trip, I will still do it!
My usual M8/M9 set with a 50 Summicron and the Nikkor 35/1.8, I decided to make ome changes:
M9 stays, but the M8 is replaced by the lighter E-P2.
the two lenses above are replaced by the 35/1.4 pre-asph Lux and the Zeiss 45/2 M. The colors of Copenhagen and Oslo asked for the Zeiss lens. The 45/2 has a 90mm perspective crop on the E-P2.
That's it. The set is lighter now.

Thank you PF. I am always slightly nervous before taking such a trip with the family. There are many things to remember to do before taking the trip.

Now that you've got the ball rolling with this uncool topic
This year for vacation, I'm packing an MP + 35mm cron ASPH, M4-2 + 50mm Zeiss Sonnar. I rarely ever travel with both, but I think I'll make an exception this time
Have a fun trip !

Same to you! Have a great trip.
I decided to go lighter by dropping the M8 and taking the EP2. I also feel that in case of theft, I still have the M8 safe at home.

Ha ha, you Americans being obsessed with photo gear theft during your trips in Europe...I also feel that in case of theft, I still have the M8 safe at home.
Come on... you don't go to Napoli or Barcelona this time !

I'm a week into a 4 week trip to rural Ireland. This is my kit:
2-X pro 1 bodies
8mm Rokinon
10-24mm
18-55mm
55-200mm
Sigma DP1M
Sigma DP2M
Sigma DP3M
plus my wife's kit
2-Xe1 cameras
14mm
18-55mm
55-200mm
We're about 800 images into the trip and it looks like the equipment decisions were perfect.

Rybolt,
My back and shoulders hurt just looking at your equipment list
. More power to u..
Raid,
Looks like a very logical setup. Between the m43 and ff using the same lenses u have 35, 45, 70 and 90 covered. I guess u are going to do stitch pano to cover things wider than what the 35 can't handle normally? 35 on the m9 and 45 on the m43 by default. If it were me, I would add a m43 af lens to the mix like pany 20f1.7 or 12-32 pancake zoom.
Enjoy your vacation.

Hey Raid..
I kind of like these threads. It is kind of fun seeing what other peoples choices are..
My current thinking for vacations depends on destinations.
- city type (2 different possible primary kits - either/or not both)
-- gx7 w/ 12-32 pancake zoom, 20f1.7 and sigma 60f2.8 or
-- Fuji xe1 w/ 27 pancake, 14f2.8 and 35f1.4 when I need speed
- forest/parks (2 different possible kits)
-- sd1m w/ 17-70 and 30f1.4 art or
-- dp1 and 2 Merrill plus Ricoh gw3 attached to dp1m for 21 fov
- beach and snorkeling
-- one day I may pick up a used Nikon one aw1, but for now it is my cheap Sony t20 plus Sony rx100.
Backup camera depending on situation to go w/ any of the primary kits above
- ir converted epl1 or
- Ricoh gr or
- Sony rx100 or
- dp2m

Raid,
I hope you and your family enjoy the trip. Stay safe!
I think if I were going on a trip where I wasn't driving, I would be inclined to take my Contax 167mt kit, or maybe replace it with a Yashica FX 103. The kit has zooms covering 18 to 150mm, a telextender, a dedicated flash, a backup FX 3, and a Contax 50mm f/1.4. Also the front pocket of the bag would have a folder, probably my Zeiss 6x9 folder or my Mamiya Six. Not to heavy and rather versatile.
I am glad you have decided on a kit that is versatile for your photographic style and wants. It always makes a trip more enjoyable.

Actually, my only insured cameras are the M8 and the M9.
Still, it is a hassle to lose cameras to theft.
This is the first time in 34 years that someone has called me an American!

I used to carry much more equipment than what you are now doing.
I got older, so I manage things differently.

Hi Gary,
The EP2 also has the advantage of magnifying 10X for focus aid, It makes taking very sharp images a piece of cake.
I do not use often very wide angle lenses.
I could add the very small CV 25/4 for the M9. Maybe it is good for taking photos of fjords. It is sharper than the two lenses that I have for the M 4/3 system.
Then I would have:
25-35-45 on the M9
50-70-90 on the EP2

Real men use B+W
Why bother taking a Leica at all? It's such an amateurish format! Get a Rolleiflex!
(This is just a lame attempt at humour - not to be taken seriously)
