you are not a photographer

So much anger. It could be funny, but the tone is very sour. Yes, they suck, but they don't need to be bludgeoned like that.

not sure about the tone, thanx for bringing it up. i will revisit shortly.

admittedly i didn't see much beyond the funny pictures.

For those who frequent the internet and Leica crowd, it isn't hard to narrow this down to who the website owner actually is. No, I won't be naming him.

Selective color, montages, intense vignettes, soft filters... yep.

It may be harsh, but it's kind of needed IMO. There's a lot of people dragging down the bottom end of the industry.

The bottom end of the industry has always been like this, only now, like the top end and middle, it's grown much larger.

There's no good from being negative about it and trying to spread that negativity.

The fact that we're linking people to his site is silly. We shouldn't be giving this guy any attention, and especially links to his site - which is obviously his goal.

haha, gotta love colour key.
not sure about about how abusive it is either, after all there is a difference between private or even forum rants and this kind of publicly organised aggression.

... there doesn't seem to be a shortage of real professionals to make comments on the photos ... you would have thought they would be too busy working

this and that, but we can agree this is kind of true....and funny, in small amounts, isn't it?

On the majority of photos shown he calls for viewer feedback to help the photographer in question to improve.

The public isn't educated enough on photography, and that's why a large portion of the industry is struggling hard. Digital cameras and social networking have compounded the problems 100x - there are thousands and thousands of completely inexperienced people with an entry level DSLR or super zoom compact advertising via social media to do weddings for prices as low as $100. There aren't many industries where one can do such a thing - most industries are regulated with standards and qualifications. Photography doesn't have any.

Unfortunately a great proportion of the public think that a photographer presses the button and not much else, and the camera does the rest. Or photoshop does the rest, and it's like a self feeding cycle, getting bigger and more prevalent.

The top end of the market is unaffected but the industry as a whole IS affected by the photographers in question, no doubt about it. It cheapens the industry significantly.

I agree. I also don't really see what the problem is. The people who hire them are obviously into what they're doing. It's not like they're scamming anyone.
Much as I hate the proliferation of bad taste, I don't see what the point is in putting people down like this.

What's wrong with flickr?
Nothing. Flickr is a social website.
But they are right, one can not buy talent with the camera( too bad , right ?). Apparently it is impossible to buy modesty as well. Stupidity was always prevailing force in humans history, so no wonder smart marketers of digital cameras are using it too for their gain. How many websites is sponsored by industry to promote sales ? ("Better camera makes you a better photographer ")

I feel out of some sort of loop. Who is the mystery man we speak of (or is mentioning his name akin to Voldem... Sorry, he who cannot be named)?

Love the baby in the tree!

Those photographs are bad but not nearly as awful as the person who runs that website.

Talk **** to & about your peers and superiors if you really want to be like that. You'll still be a jerk but at least you're not a grown man picking a fight with a child.

The blogger sounds too pompous to be taken comically. I think he or she could take a good lesson form reddit and 4chan to see how it is done correctly.

There was a limit (soon arrived at) to how much of it I could take, but several times I laughed out loud.

This is where you end up when you tell everyone, "You are special... You are talented," but neglect to add, "but unfortunately, not at everything."

It reminds me of "Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time, and it only annoys the pig," except that this time it's more like "Be hesitant when encouraging a pig to believe that it can sing."

Cheers,

R.
