I've dropped plenty of stuff.

Leica M9, $4700 repair bill. Sent it to Leica, they said it would cost more in labor to fix then to buy a new one retail so they sold me a new one at dealer cost.

35mm Summiron, $75 repair bill. Sent it to DAG, fixed it right up with a CLA. Perfect glass, focus tab has a dent in it.

50mm Summicron, $400 repair bill. Sent it to Leica, fixed it right up with a CLA. Perfect glass, built in hood and focus ring has some deep scars.

YashicaMat 124G, Never repaired. The front of the waist level finder came off. Still worked fine for awhile. Seized up on me a few months ago. Sits on a shelf.

I've also had a bunch of stuff stolen.

Pentax K1000 & Pentax K10D, Taken from car parked outside my studio when I lived in Milwaukee. Never bothered to replace it.

Canon 5D mk2 & 20mm, 28mm, 100mm, and 200mm lenses, taken from my car in NYC about a week before Christmas. Replaced the camera and two lenses about three months later.


This was all before I knew about equipment/pro liability insurance. I'm a lot more careful now.

Yeah, I guess to some of us, especially from the old Army times, that was what crossed our minds. 😛 😀

Wondering what tipped you off in the thread title that indicated this was something relevant to your life and your photography? And why comment at all when you realized it didn't?

I never thought I say it, but jailhouse imagery and photography do indeed mix 😀
