You know you have a gear acquisition problem when . . .

When the postman comes to the door and says, "Here's another one wrapped in brown paper and tied with string made from yak hair."

Wow -- this one hits close to home.

How about this:

5) You have all your packages of new acquisitions sent to work.
I have always had my new aquisitions sent to my work...but truly only cuz I'm there morre than I'm at home.
So I'll propose these:
You know you have a gear acquisition problem when . . .
You have lenses on your "watch list" that you don't have cameras to use them on, because they mught be really good glass. :bang:
OR
You(OK, I ) have a lot of 20 "new old stock" FED 5 cameras on the list just in case I can convince--wait for it!--10 other peoiple they need one and we can all get a good deal. 🙄

You decide that it is easier to get divorced then to keep figuring out ways to hind the habit; and then in the divorce, you give up the RV so you can keep the camera gear - and you think you got the better end of the deal.

you did get the better deal, with gas prices up and the miserable resale value on those things

Geez...I pay over $600 a year in camera insurance, and a little over $700/yr in car insurance.

😕

I pay over $200 per month. Camaro, imperfect record, young guy. . . you know.

And with gas for that thing, it comes to over $400 per month.

Camera money. 5 months of looking over my shoulder for cops = cost of used M7.

You know you've got it bad when you'd rather bike in the rain to work a half hour up and down hills than feed the car what would be good camera money.

Holy crap, you guys got it bad. My gear lust is pretty much sated at this point. I vaguely want a different lens for my graflex (the caltar is turning out to not be as hot as I was hoping) but that's pretty much all. My sights are set on getting out of college debt-free. 🙂

wise man.

We admire your inner strength.

When the second garage is reserved for your UPS driver...who has to back the truck all the way in. 😉

I pared the camera stable back – way back – a few years ago, and things have been pretty steady ever since. The principal purchases now are film, b/w chemistry, glassine envelopes, ink and paper for the printer, and archival CD-R/DVD-R media. It's enough effort to keep this stuff on hand, so I don't really think about acquiring another camera. Much.

Connor,

I am more than 30 years older than you. Look at the color (gray) of my hair in the Proctor Silex reflection in my avatar.

I only have about 40 lenses and a dozen cameras. It took me 37 years to get here. I went into college with one camera (FTb I bought new in '71) two lenses, and five filters. My Spotmatic was stolen in '69. That is only a lens a year and a camera every three since the beginning of high school.

And I only want one more lens and three filters!

When you can't afford working gear, but like a crack addict you NEED something, so you buy broken equipment, in the hope that you can it fix up.

Even worse. . . when you can't even afford gas at Arco (cash only), when you already have credit card debt, promised yourself and all those around you that you were finished with debt . . .and see cameras every time you look at credit card ads.

Then you get another card for "emergencies"

otherwise known as "camera on the auction site for unbelievable price"

5) You inexplicably buy a Canon AF35ML because it fills a niche.
First AF using linear ccd? with date function?
It completes my Japanese FLR under f2 shelf?

Hot / Cold I gotta know? I suppose there's a niche for everything.

When you really want a leica, but keep buying FSU stuff to try to fill that "leica gap" hoping that the next one will be just as good as...

While your wife is thinking what she will wear tonight, it takes you the same amount of time to figure out which cameras will be most suitable for the evening.

When every time you take a picture of your family they ask "is that a new camera?"

When you bid on Leicas on the internet auction site just for fun. Just because it feels good to do it.

I just bid on an unused M3 with Summarit. . . one that needs a new shutter and a CLA. . . hmm. . . a good deal in some ways, but man, what am I thinking? I Can't afford this camera! This might have to be where my ebay career ends, if you know what I mean.

A few:

5) "Darling, we talked about it, remember?... Well, I remember."
6) When you pack to go on a trip, even an overnighter, and you spend more time figuring out/packing cameras than clothes. And the cameras get a bigger bag.
7) When you used to read a novel, or the paper, on the train and you now get out a manual for your most recent purchase that you printed off the web, just making sure there's no surprises.
8) When you buy into a whole new system more than once a year, especially if you sell off a whole other system to fund it.

The loveseat goes out to the curb, to make room for another bookcase of cameras.

Hmm, I just got rid of about a hundred books to make room for my smelly chemicals. Intensive darkroom work tends to (temporarily) cure my GAS. Has anyone tried it?

But just for the fun,

5) When you don't own enough lenses to have the excuse of buying a body for each lens, so you end up buying a body for each film speed you use!

Guilty of the above, your honor!

You know you have a general problem when you start threads about gear acqusition problems in a photo forum ?
