Your camera closet

Hello. Does anyone had build a camera closet to store their gear?

Used to have my stuff on bags and cases around the house, but my wife just decide to change some in-house rules ;) so I'm forced to put them on a more organized way.


Anyone that care to show their camera storage area, especially if it is a build in closet? to get some ideas.

I don't use my closet, I found a cheap "media storage" bookshelf. Sometimes these are called "movie shelves."
It is basically a small bookcase--mine is 54" tall, about 12" wide, and just 8" deep.
Has 10 shelves total, two of those are adjustable. Takes up little floor space and I can see my stuff. Film goes into my desk drawers.
It was 40 or 50 $US when I bought it.

I have a home office which has a small closet, so I keep my gear in bags and on shelves in that closet. But it is not dedicated to camera gear alone. I also have a small 'dorm' fridge where I store film.
 
Simple, cheap: $130 worth of shelving from IKEA and a good long day's work ...

Fitted into the closet in our second bedroom, turned into an office for myself and my partner. (I've 'removed' the doors so you can see the layout...)

We recently did a home remodel and I took the opportunity to build some "proper" storage for the camera gear in the home office. Installed strip lighting inside and glass shelves, so nothing would get lost in dark corners. Weather stripping on the doors does a nice job of keeping dust off everything. No space for the large format gear, though. That's all downstairs in another room.

Then I started before G.A.S., it was one camera and lens in the small cabinet beside the bed. With G.A.S. I added plastic drawer with four sections. Like one of those from Walmart. Later on it migrated to regular dress drawer from Ikea. Now with G.A.S. maintained at get one camera, get rid of one camera level I have two vertical cabinets from old media center. It is cheap, not even Ikea and it was giving to us for free because TV sets are flat now.
I have two similar cabinets. Bottom half is two doors. Upper part is with glass doors and shelves. And top is another two small doors storage. Those cabinets are not wide, half-meter deep and wide. In glass areas I have all of my cameras. I'm keeping it under ten or dozen cameras and same amount of lenses. One lower storage at one cabinet is for darkroom paper. Another cabinet similar storage is for caps, less used lenses, flashes and so on. One upper part is for bulk film loaders with film. And same part in another cabinet is for cleaning stuff (blower, paper and so on). Between these two cabinets I have small table with PC screen, film/prints scanner and inkjet printer, plus two speakers and PC on the floor shelf. At some point I'll re-connect two upper shelves connecting two cabinets (my wife removed them after moving cabinets and table around same room) It will give space for photo books, inkjet paper and albums, boxes with prints.
 
I am using the airing cupboard at home.

It is the only mould-free place in the house, the radiator pipes keep it reasonable warm with the air constantly circulates via the vents....
 
Well, all my stuff is in my closet. All of my books, all my dvd's, all of my computer discs (not the games. They're in the drawer in my bed). All of my camera gear. Well the Ambi silette will be when I get it back from the shop, my Super regent isn't at the minutea s I'm about to take it to the shop to have it re-greased etc. I'll be getting a bag for each camera set (then I'll have 7 bags!) so that I can grab a bag and go.
 
I use a three drawer dresser/chest of drawers for my user cameras, it works very well, plenty of space for them, nothing is hidden behind anything else, it's all right there when you open the drawer.

And when they can't be seen you tend to get fewer "why do you need all those?" questions. :)
 
I use a large size canister of Silica gel inside a closet. There is humidity in Florida.
 
Two drawers of a storage thingie under my bed. That's it.

Well, the latest addition, the Jobo, fits nicely on an upper shelf in the kitchen cabinet.
 
Right now:

Camera bags I have purchased but too large to carry around are great for storing gear.
Also, anywhere and everywhere; every available space on top of my dresser and desk.

Soon:

All will be dusted off and packed in boxes for moving. I will handle these, not the movers.

I store mine on a bookshelf in the lounge room, but then I only have one body, one lens, a light meter, and two filters. I also store a 5-roll JCH case on the same bookshelf.

Other related paraphernalia goes elsewhere; chemicals and extra film in the beer fridge, developing equipment in the laundry.
