Your Experiences with Neopan 1600?

These two were on NP1600 in Diafine. Exposure is about a 1/30 f2 on a Bessa R + J8.

The pictures were taken around midnight on Blanc Nuit 2006 here in Toronto

Not totally sure... this roll also end up going thru the check-in X-ray.

Looking at the other frames, it don't think it's surge.

It might be bromide drag, since it's only on some frames.

I love the stuff. I burn it @ 1250, my lab soups it in X-Tol, and the negs look great!

I just developed some Neopan 1600 in Diafine and it came out great. I'm happy, especially since three 100' rolls just arrived from Megaperls!

Like any film it's only overly contrasty if you want it to be, or overexpose it unintentionally, or overdevelop it unintentionally.

Just received two 100' rolls myself.

Not sure what I'm actually going to use the stuff for...

How do you spell i-m-p-u-l-s-e b-u-y?

Superb indoor/night film. Not as contrast as I thought. 20C, TMax Dev 4.5mins, 5 secs agitation every 30 secs.

Hand-held city night shots! Especially if it's wet. I find 1/60th at f/2.8 to work just fine.

What iso have you used for that combination, rich? 2400?

Pherdinand, those were thru my Contax G2, exposure setting on the camera set at 1600, and all shot at either 1/125th at f/2 or 1/60th at f/2.8 using the camera's meter. Developed in D-76 stock, 6min 30sec, at 21C.

Heavens, looking at all of this may really help my DSLR spend even longer on the shelf.

Just imagining trying to get digital to come close at high ISO is something else...

Actually, I just picked up some Delta 3200 for my M3 and Hassy -- going to do some backstage work at a ballet performance this weekend. The general feeling is to shoot it at 1600, I will be developing it myself in DD-X, anyone have any advice regarding developing conditions? I want to avoid wicked contrast if possible.

Thanks and hope this doesn't step on your thread, Magus.

I'm now ready to develop a couple of test rolls of this stuff, myself.

I have discovered 4-300ml bottles of Paterson Acutol (FX19) I recently stored away with my darkroom stuff, and I'm going to try these first. I know that accutance developers accentuate the grain. I also know this stuff will tame very high contrast films, such as Technical Pan. Been told by a knowledgable user that it is all I need. We will see, I also have Diafine, and Acufine, waiting in the wings.

-Dan, anybody know where I can reorder Paterson chemicals at this point?

  i thought you dev'ed it in Diafine!!

Look, Ma! Gradation!

Look, Ma! Gradation!

Once every four or five hundred rolls, I manage to expose a frame of Neopan 1600 half-way correctly *indoors*.

Looks almost...normal?

Lex (perpendicularity consultant) Jenkins on photo.net has an extensive gallery of images on different films with different developers, as comparison. If he does not have them uploaded anymore, you could ask him privately to send you one or two, or upload them temporarily. He's a very nice guy, and also an expert (rare combination).

Rich - I love the wet shot of the lit spheres near the Ferry Building. Sweet. I have liked my results with delta 3200 better shot at 1600; should try the Neopan at 1250.

My local lab uses Xtol, but I can ask them for something else for 2 rolls min and a fee. Who likes what developer best with the Neopan?
