I did 2 rolls at a bar last night. Pushed Delta 400 to 1600 and 3200. I shot mainly with the DSLR as usual but I did experiment with the Bessa R4 with the Zeiss 25 and the Nikkor 20 ais. Rookie city. I zone focused the nikkor (just like on the DSLR) and found that with the Zeiss getting the RF patch on target was a trial with such minimal stage light.
I have here some D76, some Rodinal and some Microphen. I don't want chalk and charcoal.
Which one?

I'd reach for the microphen and dilute it 1:1. My first choice for any fast film at speed or pushed.
Disclaimer: I've not run this combo.

I would recommend microphen stock, as well. I'm not sure if you want us to just repeat the responses from yesterday...

Considering I've never used Microphen I can't really endorse it, but I have heard good things here from others who've used it. Rodinal works great for pushing a few films, but I wouldn't just use it for any films. I haven't shot Delta 400 enough to tell you if it would be a good match.

Actually, Rodinal, in stand development, might not be ab terrible idea. I'm finding it more and more versatile in that regard, and the acutance will give the relatively fine grain D400 some bite. D400 is nowhere as low grain as D100, though. That's great stuff...
I'd give it a long time - maybe 2 hours, with agitation every 30 minutes.

I knew you'd been working with Rodinal stand, but I hadn't seen your results yet. I've been curious.

I do not think Rodinal+Delta400 is a good combo, even when exposed as 200.
Go for the Microphen or DDX if you can get it.
Light in bars/clubs tend to be harsh (contrasty) so I'd go for the 1+1 for 30 minutes agitating the first 30 secs and then every other minute. That way you'll get some detail i the shadows.

I second titrisol with his Microphen or DDX suggestion.
If you can get DD-X then I'd recommend that over Microphen, I was mucking about with Delta 400 and HP5+ for 1600 speed pushing and tried both DD-X and the college microphen.
I settled on HP5+ and DD-X in the end (well, DD-X and Neopan 1600 now).

Thx. To clarify for a newbie.... do you mean: agitate/invert at the start of every other minute... or agit for the whole of every other minute.

Carzee, Agitate for a few seconds at the start of every other minute.

Once, in a www far far away (and a long time ago) I found my way to the first ever Land Rover forum and asked about head bolt torque settings, since I hadn't ever done a head job on my own....
..... and the answer came back within a minute from a person who had just finished his own head job... in Nova Scotia. That was 1996, and thats when I realised the Net was very good.
