Your Favorite 2006 Photo?

The year is drawing to a close. I started thinking about the photos I took in 2006, and which one I liked best. Funny, it didn't even get a single comment on the RFF gallery, but this was my favorite:

I took this in Prague last May. A friend had asked me to be the "unofficial photographer" for their band's concert. Technically, I liked it. It was also the first (and only) time that I had ever done any photography in a capacity other than as my "Sunday hobby." Taken with Leica M6, 35mm Summicron ASPH on Ilford Delta 3200.

It's a good time to analyze how productive this year has been for your photography. So, of all the shots you took this year, what is YOUR favorite photo, and why?

Sisteron France, September 2006.
Most will say - too busy - chaotic - etc. All true, but I like it; it captures my memory of the location . Leica M7, CV 35/2.5 P-II, Superia 400.

Not sure this is my total favourite but it's one of them. Camera is a Zorki 1 with Industar 22, location Chillingham Castle, Northumberland.

Probably this one of Rich from the other week. It's the first photo in a long time that's made me go "wow. i'm not half bad!" - Rolleicord III, Lucky SHD400

Otherwise it might have been one of the shots of Amy Brown, but personal reasons have kinda stopped me looking at those photo's ever again.

My favourite RF photo of 2006 (I bought my first RF this year) is this one:

Reuters Bar, Brooklyn Hotel, Sydney. Hexar RF, M-Hexanon 50/2 @f2, Ilford XP2.

...Mike

gerold...
i love it! it reminds me of a photo by a guy named shelby lee adams. it's inside a home in the appalachian's during a funeral i believe... two different rooms. very disjointed yet somehow... synchronicity.

That has a nice atmosphere to it, Ray. Well, comments, schomments, they say ;) I don't get many. But my favorite (so far) for this year did:

f_2006-08-27_21-N5_3.jpg

Leica M6 + 50mm tabbed Summicron / Kodachrome-64

A portrait of my neighbour Helen. It was one of the first photos taken with my Fed 2 and when I think of her I think of the Fed ... and vice versa!

People often "critique" something negatively (as opposed to constructively) without understanding themselves why it is that they "don't like it". It's often because it's not something they would have shot. If at least one person sees what you saw or visualized, then you've accomplished your goal. Many "photographer" 's goal is to "immediately impact" and give the viewer one thing at a time. Polyphony, so to speak, has its place in photography, too. Too many become overwhelmed when there's more than one voice out there. The trick is the melody.

You chose to capture the "noise" in front of you. And it's your favorite!

Nice portrait Keith. Lovely light and quiet intensity on the part of the subject.

Mine is this rather more dramatic one:

Not perfect, I wish I had used a faster shutter speed, but it is dynamic and active. I think I'll send a print to my old photo prof Geoff Winningham at Rice U. I just ran up 10 prints on 11X14" Portra Endura this morning.

I think THIS would have to be my favourite of the photographs that I took this past year (at least my favourite from amongst those that I have scanned).

(The contrast on the actual print is much better. My scanning skills are rudimentary at best.)

Gabriel, your photograph stands out for me as certainly one of the best that I have seen on RFF all year. It is stunning!

I'm a new RF user, so the choice for this year is not so big, but I like this shot from our local market:

but there are still some days until the year 2006 ends, I have two rolls of Fuji Neopan 400 CN which are not developed yet and today I bought a used Nikon Coolscan film scanner from *Bay, so maybe I've another chance to change my mind... :D
