Hmm. Not really sure what my favourite is. I really like this one, but nobody commented on it when I posted it in the gallery:

My sister visited at Thanksgiving from Ireland. If you knew her you would recognise her expression as just so typical.
Not the greatest picture and certainly not the greatest scan but it is my favorite because I love her so much.

Favorite would be the wrong word, but it's certainly the most important image of the year. This is Auschwitz.

Overweight and over here

Probably this one...which seemed iconic of the wildebeest migration over the Mara River in the autumn...
I've lived and worked in Africa over the years - South Africa, Mozambique, Zambia and Kenya. I learned my art the hard way - on location with a wildlife cameraman - and have waited patiently for the subject sometimes for weeks in the same spot under great discomfort. Getting the shot is a moment of magic under such circumstances - the hard work of tracking and planning creating a connection with the wildlife that is hard to describe. A couple of years ago I had the privilege of being the first person ever to film the Butaan in the wild (large tree-living lizard and relative of the Komodo Dragon - and believed extinct until a few years ago).
But filming wildlife on the Mara is so easy I've lost all respect for the location...and for the photographic output. Great place, love the Maasai but its easier than shooting in a zoo...
For me, this shot summed it up...a spectacular contradiction.

I don't know that I'm happy enough with any of my work to call it a 'favorite' of the year. I haven't taken any photos of any real signifigance either. Just a bunch of snapshots, some of them took more effort to create than others, but none of them can be called 'art'.
I don't like the 'best' of my work being defined only by others, but in this case I guess my 'best' of the year would be the photo that won a Best of Show and Judge's Choice at the state fair. I'm tired of this picture but I don't have anything better to show for the year.
I'm sure a lot of people would hate this photo for what it is and what it was taken with, but it's a cat and it was taken with a DSLR.

My favorite is going to be this one. I was shooting with my little brothers friend showing him the ropes of street photography in Minneapolis. during that shoot, i took this photo. I recall taking it, but didnt see how well the three guys line up.

Sometimes I can get inspired.
When I saw the number of viewers and replies, I thought to myself that Seal probably posted. Great responses guys. Remember, this is not to show off one's work. Just your favorite, the one YOU like the most. For your own reasons - which may be just as interesting to read about. So don't be shy.
And remember, it has to be a photo YOU took. It's really a good exercise in evaluating the work you did this past year.
So let's see them. And here's to a productive and enjoyable 2007!
