Make photos, not war.
Simply put, I'd like to know which is your favourite version of Leica's venerable M-mount 50mm f2 Summicron lens.
Feel free to elaborate why you made your choice if you'd like.
Cheers.

Got it for almost nothing and I'll be keeping it until I'm, well, rigid.

The Rigid is old-class magic.
The 5th tabbed and 6th hooded are wonderful as well.
You can't ask us which of our children is our favorite. That sort of talk will guarantee them a lifetime in costly therapy

its black, got no tab and no 50 written on it, so I think its version 4.

Everyone will vote for what they have I guess, there is no truth to be seen in this topic
and what I hate most there is no clean and fast place to get old leicas!

I've voted for the latest, hooded version as it's the one I own and thus I take much better pictures with it than the ones I don't have

Eek, I voted version 5 while I meant 4... apologies!
Having owned 1,2,3, and 5.....I voted for the Rigid. They are all great, the rigid is just right for me.

I don't own one yet, but when I do, I'd like it to be a 5th, for the focusing tab, so that operating it is as similar as possible to the 35 Summicron I also use.

The collapsible, of course.
That's the only one i have!

I have both the collapsible screwmount version and a black tabbed version. I'm choosing the black tabbed one because its aperture clicks easier than my the collapsible(mostly becuase the old one needs a cleaning), and it doesn't have an annoying infinity lock.
And hey its black! It looks good on my black TTL

50 Summicron DR
it's the only 50mm I have. Compared with my other Leica lenses it is the smoothest and most beautiful on the M4. Especially when the "eyes" are mounted.
Quality of the pics are exellent and so is the contrast, but, needs a hood sometimes, that prevent flare...

Tabbed version or 5th as you call it. You gotta have a tab.

wish they had a tab on the elmar which would make it the perfect 50 for me.
I am a fan of 50-ties lenses and I like the tabbed 5th too, but the Elmar is still favorit, the new 2.8 version that is.

Picking one is hard. I guess my version 4. The DR/Rigid ones are nice and smooth, but not as good at 2.0 and 2.8. The last ones are very sharp, perhaps too sharp for everything.
I have a new 2.8 Elmar and it is very nice, but again can br too sharp like the `cron.
