Not my hometown as where I was born and raised. Simply my hometown for the past dozen years or so...

Interesting! We oft tend to look at the places which are familiar to us with a distracted eye but they could be, if seen with attention a mine of treasure photographically speaking.

Hey, man! How ya been? I hope to see you in Charleston soon as I have promised a short trip to my bride as a little surprise treat before the weather gets too hot!

College Park! Oh, yes, I was born and raised to the age of 13 in East Point when it was a booming blue collar town complete with Ward, June and the Beaver. Still love the memories! For some reason I worked there a decade ago as the Development Director but never pulled out a camera to photograph the demise and somewhat of a rising at the time. As an aside, my friend and riding buddy was the City Manager of College Park and I expect to visit with him soon for old times sake.

Dunaway Gardens is a place I ride by a lot but never went to visit. I need to. As far as the condition, I think it looks nice from the road and my daughter-in-law is a successful wedding planner and has nice things to say about it. So, I don't know...but I will find out by visiting now that Spring is here!!:angel: Thanks for the reminder as I would love to shoot some more slides.

Newnan? Yeah, it is different but still growing unfortunately with a lot of traffic! Part of the southern growth of urban sprawl from the megalopolis of Atlanta. Thank you for the comments on the photos as they were simply a part of my testing the 45mm/2.8 P lens and I was pleased with the final results. This is the second copy I have had of that lens and I think I finally figured it's strengths, unlike the first time many years ago.

Hey, post us some photos of Charleston!!! :D

Yep, Wally and the Beav it was! I graduated from Lakeshore High School (now either an elementary or middle school I believe) in 1977, but hung out with all the folks from Briarwood. Behind my house on Herschel Rd was all woods but now is a vast parking lot for rental cars for Hartsfield Intl. (where my father was a captain with Eastern Airlines.) I don't get to ATL much anymore - no one left from the family and friends have scattered over time. Besides, I don't recognize anything! But, you never know, we might have friends in common!

Dunaway Gardens would be worth the visit, especially with the azaleas in bloom. They also had the most amazing wisteria vines. It was a magical ruins in the moonlight.

I'm working on a series of Downtown Charleston. It's hard to come up with an original angle as the place has been photographed to death. When you're in town please give me a shout. I'd love to show you and your bride around. I hope she is doing much better.

I had a couple of friends who went to Lakeshore. We have our past in common! This is too cool!:D
 
Place where I grew up in is very rural and people still have to walk miles to get to the town proper

 
Home since 2006 - beautiful but surprisingly difficult to photograph in a way that goes beyond the cliches.

I don't have a particular 'hometown'. As an expatriate, I move around often. This said, I do consider some towns as 'hometowns'. This is Saigon,
Vietnam. I'll post some others as well.
 


Chisinau, the Capital City of Moldova, a former Soviet Republic is finding it's way. I lived and worked there for
more than five years and got to appreciate the country and the tenacity of it's citizens. One of my 'hometowns'.
 
I agree with others that it's hard to photograph a well-loved and well-visited city without falling into cliche or going to the other extreme and seeking out the ugly or abject.

However, the photos on this thread prove that interesting and imaginative photographs can be made of subjects very "close to home," as it were.
