I had to read a few posts to make up my mind what this poll is about..
I may still be wrong though..
My Take...
I=G means your images are equal in quality to your gear..
I<G means your images are improving, but, the gear has more potential it can bring out as you get better.
I>G Means your talent is off the chart and it doesn't mater what gear you use.

I voted #2, With my interpretation.

excellent interpretation.

my original thought sprang forth from reading so many times the line about 'my gear is better than i am'...or something along those lines. and seeing so many mediocre (my opinion) shooters arguing about lens qualities and camera build.
now, i love a good gear discussion about as much as the next guy (around here anyways) but sometimes the art gets lost in the details and it can be annoying.

WoooHooooo
What did I win :D

I think both for talented and non talented photographers, the gear used doesn't matter at all: even if there are differences comparing huge prints, the nature of those gear differences have no relevance at all if we come to see what an image is able to express...

Cheers,

Juan

Not me. I can see an image in my mind and I know what lens I want to use, and it upsets me if I don't have the right thing for the job (and for commercial work it basically makes the client go bye-bye!). I have a lot of gear I rarely use, but when I need it, its there. I personally don't get the guys constantly obsessing over having too much stuff and thinking they have to sell one thing to get another (I'm not talking about those who cannot afford to buy something so they sell a rarely used item, I mean guys who don't care about money, they just get upset about HAVING too much equipment).

Well I have recently come to the conclusion that all I really need is 1 35mm lens (in my case a 40 modified with my wides nail file, shhhh).

It is important to remember that what works for me, or yourself, may not mean much of anything to others.

+1

In the end.. this is all that maters... What does the image express... Gear excluded.

One of the things I see over and over again in the images posted on RFF is how many people have great gear they have little idea of how to use. Cameras never make the photographer. They can help but you need an underlying understanding of the practice and some skill to take advantage of the technology...

+1 Plus,
Notice that there are more votes on my images are greater than the gear....
One possible Interpretation might that the image is MORE important than the gear. That's one interpretation. The other is that one believes their images are great (which is highly subjective of course), meaning that they are very talented.

Now, a lot of us use gear that is beyond our talent.. (I for one). BUT, Sometimes it is the Quality of the gear, not the brand that attracts us.(guilty again). In the past, I was guilty at a younger age of buying "Brand", thinking it would improve my images... NOT !!!!... But, now I can appreciate the quality, knowing I will function in any situation...This a better mind set to have so I produce better images.

Of Course, if you combine both, then you have a mature photographer. One who is talented and the gear is just a tool to achieve the image one has envisioned.

i like that...

Especially true if we accept any brand makes equipment as good as for that...
