Shooter of Film...
I just picked up my Mamiya m645 1000s from the repair shop today...
It was starting to get uneven exposures on the top part of the image due to the mirror not moving fast enough to clear the shutter...
I've only had this camera about two years and don't know it's history...I doubt it's ever been in a shop so I figure it's about time...I thought about buying another body but then it could have been in worse condition internally...I believe it's was money well spent and a better move on my part...
The camera was CLA'd, no parts were needed and he was able to fix it...
He also mentioned that the cloth shutters were a bit loose and those were tightened...John added that the shutter was off by about 1 stop due to the loose shutter...
He also mentioned that the camera mechanical parts looked very nice inside and weren't trashed like the other 645 body I had (I did get that one fixed) He said that all in all the camera is in great condition...and I got a 6 month warranty...
The m645 is loaded up again and I'm getting ready to go do some shooting...
So what's been your latest camera repair...did you send it out or do it yourself...

That's interesting. My next-to-last repair went to Eddy also - he replaced the shutter assembly in a Canon 7. So smooth.
My current need, a CLA and new Cameraleather Griptak skin on an Olympus OM-1n, is now at John Hermanson's home for ailing Olys in New Yawk.

My 4 month old M8 died during a long exposure...completely died. I'm waiting for Leica New Jersey to fix it. They have yet to tell me exactly what the problem was.

Just yesterday, I was cleaning up the VF on a FED2 that I carry in my lunch box. I might go back in there and wedge something in its diopter mechanism though. Since I'm too near-sighted to get any benefit from it, it might as well be frozen in place rather flopping in and out of focus.
Up next, some griptac is coming for my Bessa R2a. The back piece hadn't been fitting right for a while, half-on, half-off, looked and felt crappy.

Sherry Krauter fixed my jammed MP. CLA'd my 35mm cron. Price fair and job was done quickly.

I just CLAd and releathered a pre-war Bessa RF for $148.

I offered to replace the missing hand strap but the customer says he likes the "irony" of his Zeiss neck strap on a Voigtlander camera.

Probaby the LEICA written across the front.
I bought what was billed as a nice M6 on the RFF Classifieds only to be $300+ into getting it the way I want it and it still not working right. :bang:

Shooter of Film...
I finished developing the two rolls I shot today with the m645...so far they look okay, they're still drying...I probably have to do some testing to readjust to the new shutter speeds...
I've worked on the Olympus 35-S cameras myself (oily shutter) but there was no way I was going to crack open this camera just to see if I could do it myself...I do have a non-functioning m645 body I could play with...right now I'd rather shoot with the good one...

... likes film again.
Just last Saturday I have received my M7 back from Leica USA, the shutter was jammed (broken ?) and needed service. Since I bought the camera with one year Leica USA warranty, I only needed to pay shipping to Tony R. (who sent the camera to Leica USA for me). Complete turn-around time was a little over two month, not bad and Kudos to Tony R. for the good service !

Two months is not bad? Wow!

It always took 6 weeks having stuff service by Leica Japan, so I think two month in total with altogether 4 times shipping (from and to Leica USA) is quite fast.

Replaced rewind crank of my M6 with beautiful Leicaflex brass crank (80$ at DAG), after it obviously had gotten bumped. Cleaned a Canon 50/1.5 for a friend.
BTW, Gabor, I learned from Don that the M4P (brass top) rewind crank is aluminum, too.

I'm fortunate! - never sent one out for repair - in over forty years!, I've had one or two minor things that I've been able to handle myself, but I certainly don't send 'em for greasing and oiling - every so often, just because I think they might need it. The only one that would have gone for service was a OM2N with jammed shutter, but it was stolen first!.

Yeah, I hate that crap. Someone had "repaired" the Bessa i just finished too. They had ripped the 6x6 viewfinder mask out, leaving a hole, so there was a LOT of crud under the top cap, and they glued the screws down that hold the top cap on. Broke four screwdrivers getting it off. You should see what amateur repairmen did to the Rollei and the TLR I was asked to fix before this.

My M5s need red dots!
I just got my M4-2 back from DAG last Friday. He had had it since September 14, 2009. Considering he did a 3/4 CLA, replaced the top of the film advance shaft and the flash system (plus adding the rims around the MX contacts, little plugs and a rubber ring for the VF), it was remarkably fast.
BTW, the film advance had been "repaired" and that's why Don had to fix it.

Depends on what's wrong with it and what problems you run into. It can take six days, if you're lucky and it's a pretty straightforward CLA. It can take six months if you're the third repairman it was sent to and the first and second didn't know what they were doing. I was once sent a camera that had screws epoxied into place, for instance. I guess somebody was worried they might work loose.
Also, any cameras I get sent for repairs start at the back of the queue. The ones that are received first get worked on first. No big deal if I only have one or two cameras to work on, but if I have 15 or 20, it can take awhile to get to the one I got in the mail today. BTW, currently I have 8 to work on. Not all are simple CLAs.

My last one was this Pen F which is still waiting for it's new covers to arrive from Morgan Sparks.
And before that was this Canon Demi which had been so bashed about I thought I'd give it a re-spray.

My $20 M3 went to CRR Luton and came back "as new". It needed the mirror re-silvered and the self timer repaired plus Peter did an incredible job of restoring the vulcanite and CLA'ed it to perfection. All for less than what I got for the 50mm lens it came with.
Loving it with the 90 and 135 lenses. Best 90mm framelines ever.

Well, no RF or SLR. About three years ago for Christmas, my daughters gave me a Sony P&S. Six megapixels, so not so bad. About 3 months ago, I put it in my pocket to go to dinner with them and apparently something in my pocket pushed too hard against the screen protector, or the screen just decided to die. Luckily they knew to get me a camera with a viewfinder. But if you can't chimp, what's the fun of a P&S?
About a month ago, I was searhing for a replacement on ebay and discovered several sellers from Hong Kong selling replacement viewscreens. One seller with a screwdriver and plastic tool. I am not really a repair person, but I figured for $20 is was worth a chance. Five screws later, pry the back off, unplug the old screen, and ... it works! Well, I did have to go back in and reseat the screen once so the back would fit well enough for the chimp button to work.
I still don't consider myself a repair person, but I am happy it works again.
