How would someone go about making their own website so they could upload photos and easily share them like we do with Flickr. Flickr just isn't doing it for me anymore. I'd like some way of storing photos to share to various websites so the BBcode thing would be easiest since it's what I use all the time. I might expand and write short stories with photos embedded too. But mostly looking to store photos for easy sharing. Oh, I'd like to store videos from my iPhone to share as well. I'd prefer not to use youtube for that if possible.

Easiest way would be to sign up with one of the big players --Zenfolio and Smugmug. Even better if you already own your own domain name. Then no one needs to know it’s hosted buy one of these services.

I would do the same. The only reason I have not seriously considered it to date is the problem of how to drive traffic to my site. Flickr has this covered because of the way its social media aspects work - bulletin boards attached to groups, ability to post to groups, ability to follow individual people / groups, personalized metadata ability, ability to search by camera or lens etc. It has its problems but these aspects have made it worth me sticking with them at least for now. It just makes it easier to find like minded people who I want to follow or who might want to follow me. For example I have not found SmugMug to be as good in the social networking respect so have never bothered with it. I re-evaluate it from time to time though and if anything apparently better comes along I will consider it further.

I've done it a few times. Learn some simple HTML, know how filezilla or some other uploader works, buy a domain name and some server space and then you're off to the races
I use https://chevereto.com, there is a free version, no need for coding html, just need a host and a domain.

I use Squarespace, It's pretty simple. But it seems like its one of the more expensive domains out there.

I like this one. $12 per month doesn't seem like much either. I assume I need to purchase a domain name and use their templates to design how I want my website to looks. Can you still share photos off of the website like you do on Flickr?

Curious about this one too. So,are you basically using their template on a website you own? I really want to have my own domain and have a place to store my photos for easy sharing.
I'm not too concerned about social networking. I left facebook a while back after finding I spent too much time reading and looking at too much nonsense. I occasionally peek in when an immediate family member post something but that's about it. The most I do now is Instagram and even there I don't post photos often as I could.

My two cents... I'd advice against it. It does not make sense price wise and if you are not tech savvy it will disappoint convenience wise.

You're correct, I believe the domain is $20/Year.
I've haven't shared images yet, But it seems as simple as right clicking and copying the image location.

I thought it was easy enough to build, but I was building rudimentary HTML websites around 2000 already so maybe I had a bit of a head start.
Do I cover the expenses in any way? No. But, I'm paying less than 10 bucks a month to keep it alive and someday I might have accumulated enough interesting stuff to justify running a few more ads etc on it to cover the costs.
From time to time I like to publish new articles on cameras and gear and tips&tricks and images too. And if nobody visits it, I'm still doing it because I like to do it.

It's finding the horse and rider that's a little bit tricky. I have mine set up using Wordpress, because that it what I was familair with. The learning curve can be a bit steep if you are a neophyte.
