Which brand gives you the best results for sufficient and long-lasting energy for motor drives, electronic flash, or other demanding applications? If not sure, which do you simply prefer?
 
A search of the web shows that some folks find little or no difference; some are sure that Duracells are stronger and last longer (some have actually done tests); and some claim that Energizers leak and ruin equipment, while Duracell doesn't. I've lately been using Energizers for no better reason than they are sold in larger packs and are more economical. And yes, I've had them leak. I've also had a Maglite ruined by a leaking Duracell.

So. I'm looking for input from photographers.
 
I've had the fewest leakage problem with Duracells, so that's my choice. You can buy them in large packages at a good price at Costco....

I voted Duracell...not sure why, maybe the color? What is on sale? Never had a problem with them before?

I have to admit that I sometimes find the Energizers puking in the battery compartments or my flashlights periodically....
 
I've not seen any difference in brands so I buy what's cheapest including store brands. When I'm finished shooting I pull the batteries out of the equipment and put them in a ziplock bag with whatever they came out of provided they still have some life. If in question I use them in other non critical devices like flashlights or a cordless beard trimmer.

That's what I do with the old but not dead yet batteries...:D

+10. They are great, especially when they are offered for $15 for 8 with free ship. I use a Maha charger. Powerex are cheap but useful life is short.

Energizer>Duracell as far as alkalnes go. They will both leak so be cautious.
 
For devices that see more heavy use, Eneloops. On anything casually used or not operable at the lower NiMH voltage, budget alkalines from Lidl or the like.

The days when "plain" meant leaky, low power zinc-carbon cells are over. Here in Europe, the house brand alkalines sold by Lidl, Aldi, Tesco and the like have frequently been tested to be quite the same as regular variety brand name cells - and all of them quite probably will have originated at the same set of OEMs, interchangeably.

There is no point in "Photo" alkalines, these tend to cost as much as Eneloop type NiMH rechargeables while being single-use and inferior in power and current capabilities. Worse, quite a few of them have been caught out in tests as being merely photo decorated, and by technical specs not even superior to the regular cells of the maker, in spite of being sold for twice the price.
