This could be a long post so bear with me if you would...
I'm adopted and have known this all my life, I have cousins on my dad's side that have only recently found out that they too were adopted. We knew they were adopted but we were told to never tell them this even though they knew we were...it was hard to hide this due to the fact we looked nothing like our parents...
Here's what I found out just yesterday...almost all of my cousins were adopted not just a few that I knew about...my dad had two older sisters that had their own kids...the rest of his brothers & sisters got their kids in so many ways that would be impossible to do today...I had thought that only my dad's brothers had adopted their kids but it turns out his sisters did the same...
One of my cousins found out within the last two years due to medical reasons and that is a fascinating story all on it's own...his brother was also adopted but for some strange reason I thought he was a product of his parents..
The revelation opened up this ugly can of worms and now they all know...
This thought came to me this morning...I have never seen any photographs of these people "Pregnant"...mainly because they never were but then why wasn't this revelation ever thought of before...you would think someone would have asked if their mom had pictures of themselves "Pregnant"...
My question is...was this not a normal practice back in the day...???
These people were born between the mid 1950's to the late 1970's...but no one's thought to ask for photos, or at least I hadn't thought of it...
What was the feeling back then on photographing women while there were "Pregnant"...was there a taboo on this, was it considered impolite, was it looked at as a waste of film/money...???
Do you have any pictures of family members back then that show them in a Family Way...???

A nice human interest story, thanks for sharing. Having grown up in 50's/60's era on the East Coast in a catholic family/neighborhood unplanned/out of wedlock pregnancies were not discussed and children rarely kept by the mother. I did not know anyone who was adopted growing up and never put much thought into the subject.

My daughter feel in love and married a wonderful man seven years ago. Paul was adopted and as an adult met his birth mother and a sister that she had years later in a marriage.

It sounds like you had a loving and caring family that was willing to take in children and raise them in a good home.

Best wishes sent along for your cousin Frank and his new found sister Lupe!

I am not aware of any taboo on photographing pregnant women. Yes, I have a few photos of family members when they were pregnant, including the mother of my daughter, some 22 years ago.

I don't know about the past, but today there is a big market for pregnancy portraits. Some women even have nude pregnant portraits done! I know a female photographer who makes a good living doing them.

I was asking more about the slightly earlier years 50's through late 70's...
Our kids are 26 & 24 and we have pictures of their mother while prego...
I just haven't seen a lot of them from the era mentioned above...maybe that's just our family...that's why I was asking to see some from this time...

Today, Yes..a big market, but 50, 60+ years ago not so much...
Maybe people interpreted being pregnant (in a photo) as..."You had Sex"...and that didn't put you in good light...
Kind of like when Lucy & Ricky (married on their show and in real life) had to sleep in separate beds...

Yes, I was referring to that as well. I'm 55 years old, I was around for all of the 1960s and 1970s. I recall seeing photos of pregnant mothers, as well as photos in the family album of my own mother pregnant with my younger sisters.

I didn't want to state that explicitly in the thread because trolls.
